Secondborn of the Magmablood Twins
Secondborn of the Magmablood Twins
Allegiance Loner Theme song: Second Child, Restless Child - The Oh Hello's |
When the Magmablood Rebellion made their decision to rise up against the Grand Circle of Forgemasters, they spread the word of their plan to any fire smiths who they felt might be interested in the uprising. What they hadn't banked on, however, was the fact that some of their rebels might get cold feet once the fighting started- might, in fact, balk at the idea of warring not against rival tribes, but against their own kind. There were many such defectors, who could not bear to fight family and friends left behind in Cinderslag. Most simply left quietly in the night; one, however, wasn't entirely confident that she'd be welcomed back by the Circle, and so decided to bring along a bribe they couldn't refuse. The eggs of fire flight dragons are bathed in magma, both to incubate them and to imbue the hatchling inside with the magic of the Flamecaller. Eggs bathed this way are always stronger magically than eggs that aren't. So the cold-footed rebel decided to bring a spark of the Magmablood volcano home with her as an offering to the Forgemasters by bathing two of her own eggs in the crater. Unfortunately for her, she was caught and killed for her treachery. The leaders of the rebellion decided to raise hatchlings in the eggs as their own, and make sure they would never turn traitor as it's mother had. When finally the eggs hatched, it was clear that the traitor's plan had worked. The babies inside- named Flare and Kindle by the rebels- burned bright and hot with the dreadful power of the wild magic in the young volcano. Kindle was the secondborn of the duo. Though both sisters struggled to contain their explosive magic, she was the far more volatile of the two. As hot-tempered as the volcano that had incubated her, Kindle was prone to outbursts of anger when stressed. And given their mother's status as a traitor to the Magmablood cause, Kindle and Flare were often the subject of ridicule and suspicion. Blood would tell, wouldn't it? Despite her temper, Kindle was not a bad dragon. She just wanted to prove her worth, separate from what the mother she never knew might have done, regardless of her fire magic. So, when one day in her early adolescence one of her explosive outbursts caused a blast that killed several dragons, Kindle was horrified and ashamed. She and Flare knew that there was no going back, and that there would never be any hope for a normal life for them in Fire Flight- so, they fled, escaping south towards ice territory. Their hope was that maybe, just maybe, the ambient ice magic and natural cold would be enough to suppress their power. To protect other dragons from what they could do. |
