xxxxxxxThe nocturne flight in the middle of the wastelands. The changeling spell and its glamour. It helped us blend with beastclans and strike at the right time. It made us rogues and scavengers. xxxxxxxAll younglings tried, and few achieved it; I succeeded. From nobody, I became an apprentice. She-wolf; mage. On my teacher's study were cream coloured petals and the flowers surrounded him. He kept his flowers close as they fed on his magic. He was the only wolf to have them. He was the single wolf who could teach the spell. I wanted flowers too. xxxxxxxThe elders called him weak, for he was not a warrior. That made no sense to me. To have flowers on the Wyrmwound, you must be strong. Nature is the first to succumb to the blight. Every single wolf had magic; my teacher was the only wolf to have flowers. xxxxxxx"Leave him alone with his spells and his petals. Real dragons use their magic to survive." xxxxxxxI longed to have flowers too. I still don't have them.

xxxxxxxI learned fast. As it turns out, the elders had a purpose for me. Like all apprentices, I would serve in another clan. The list of skills I had to master was long: Healing magic, Plague magic and how to apply them in battle. I do not want to be a warrior, I want a study and flowers. I long to teach the changeling spell and to be a scholar, like he was. I wanted to learn the history of the Scarred Wasteland and to educate others on it; such knowledge has always been denied to me. xxxxxxxI had a purpose, and they would only educate me as far as it was needed to fulfil my future task of Representative. xxxxxxxUnlike him, I am a warrior. Warriors have no flowers.

xxxxxxxMy purpose was supporting another Plague dragon. She is my teacher's old friend. She knows burial rites, the history of our lands, and educates others on the pride and life of the Wyrmwound. She has travelled wide and far across the Wasteland and learned the story of our element. xxxxxxxShe did not commute with the blight, she did not fight it. She flew around its edges and found life elsewhere. Among our own, she is a weakling and a coward. To the other dragons, she is everything they could ask of a Representative. xxxxxxxI am a warrior of the Wastelands. The other plague dragons see me as an aspect of the blight; I don't feel like it. xxxxxxxBruises, stitches and scars cover my skin. I have been blinded of an eye, and my wings have been torn at their skims. I am a She-wolf, a beastclan spy, a warrior mage; I am also a Representative. xxxxxxxWe work together in this city where flowers grow everywhere. They have no value. xxxxxxxI know how powerful I've grown to be. I could teach the changeling spell. I could grow flowers that would live off my own magic. Petals could be scattered around the floor of my study. None of that belongs to me. xxxxxxxOn her study, the walls have been decorated with drags of flowers and herbs. They suit her. Her den smells of incense and jasmine, myrrh and sandalwood. xxxxxxxI longed to have flowers too. I still don't have them. Unlike Eleanor, I am a warrior and warriors don't have flowers. | x |
