Biography

"Look, I'm very serious about this! I haven't even gone on a snack break in, like, an hour!"

Dedicated Researcher,
Dr. Valeria Galvan, Female Bogsneak, Light Flight

-Dr. Drame had called me into his office today.
-I was worried he was going to, I dunno, get mad because of how “unprofessional” I am, so I was not looking forward to seeing him.
-Instead, he started praising me, and said that I was wasting my talents hunting for shade creatures and other strange beasts.
-He said that he decided to promote me.
-That was very shocking to hear, to say the least.
-Apparently, there’s a bunch of strange dragons who seem to have a strong connection to other dimensions, and Drame thinks I’m the best person out of the entire laboratory to hunt them down to learn more.
-Considering how much Dr. Drame was focused on the capture of dangerous shade beasts, I was surprised to hear he cared about... literally anything else, actually, no less other dimensions.
-I gladly accepted the position.
-When I left the office, I it fully hit me what had just happened.
-I get to lead a research team!
-This was basically everything I ever wanted!

-I’m the leader of my little group of scientists, Dr. Drame said. He said we were now equals.
-It’s been a week and he still hasn’t stopped barking orders at me.
-I figured that I could finally give him suggestions as well, since we were, in his own words, equals.
-When I heard he was out hunting another shade creature, I wrote a few tips for chasing them that I figured would help.
-He didn’t even read them.

-For a while, we didn’t have much luck finding Doubleworlders (dragons with connections to other worlds).
-But today, we finally met one!
-She was a ridgeback who was very courteous and polite, though she overall knew nothing about other dimensions.
-Dr. Drame had given me a script for what to ask these dragons, but now that I look at it again, it doesn’t look very... effective.

-“What is your name?”
-“What do you do for a living?”
-“Do you feel a connection with any dimension outside our own, or at least know of them?”

-Yeah. Good luck discovering things when you’re limited to three extremely basic questions.
-Thanks, Drame.

-I don’t think I was promoted.
-Dr. Drame never really liked me, I knew that.
-I always tried to prove myself as a capable scientist. Capable enough to get my own research team.
-Even then, Dr. Drame was incredibly dismissive of my suggestions and ideas, even from the start.
-And then he just wanted me gone, I guess.
-He gave me a team, of course, but it’s...
-Well...
-It’s not what I wanted to research, I suppose.
-But that doesn’t matter.

-I ended up doing a bit of research of my own, actually.
-Sometimes, Dr. Drame will come into my office and tell me there’s a possible Doubleworlder here or there.
-It didn’t take long for me to discover that he was usually planning on going off with his own shade-hunting research team, usually in a completely different spot than wherever he directed me to.
-That was a bit disheartening.

-I wonder if he thought I’d never notice this.

-Oh well.
-Right now, all I want is to prove I that am capable.
-My best bet right now is to do my best at what my job is right now: hunting down the Doubleworlders.
-I’ll have to deviate from my lackluster script and figure out some way to actually use the information we gather about these dragons.
-But I should be able to pull it off eventually.
-After that, I should be let back into Drame’s research time, and then maybe, just maybe, I can convince him to let me research what I wanted from the very beginning.
-But for now, I just have to do my best.
