H I S T O R Y I am half-surprised at Đại Nguyên’s eloquence, as my first impression of him was of a dark, silent shadow standing by Nhuận Kha’s side. Of course, I was quickly proven wrong, as the geologist turned out to be much more long-winded and condescending than I initially thought - but I digress. After all, I do appreciate the clarification. Before Waterless Island, Đại Nguyên sank into the backdrop of rising talents from the Archives as just another draconic scholar studying to achieve something greater. As such, coupled with Mountain Sect’s dodgy records, it is hard for me to document exactly what he was like back then. His reputation, however, shot up during the Waterless campaign. Đại Nguyên was, perhaps, the only member attending the hunt, possibly since Mountain Sect as a whole knew better than to dip their toes into one of Breeze Sect’s peculiar schemes. The newly-risen student was more eager to prove his worth than to preserve himself, and soon became among the most ruthless, most obdurate of players on that island. This resolve quickly turned into the biggest mistake in Đại Nguyên’s life. During an encounter, the details of which are still unclear to me just like everything else about that event, he was taken down by the island’s fauna. The injury was so severe that when Uy Lâm intervened, all he could do was replace the fallen contestant’s skin and flesh with metal, turning him into a walking statue. With his being now reduced to pure bones and internal organs, I shudder to even imagine the pain. It took Đại Nguyên some adjustment to get used to his new body, and he had to spend the rest of his time on the island recuperating. That didn’t stop him from bonding with those who are now known as the Waterless Conqueror, and after the conclusion of the campaign, his endeavour was recognized by the Academy. Đại Nguyên was promoted to Houfell Academy’s inner circle, however, he was inspired to do his research offshore. With his armour inventor not always available, Đại Nguyên learned how to maintain his exterior, replacing broken down parts with ones hand-carved from minerals. Now with a body eternally encased in metal and gemstones, he vehemently refuses to comment on how his current existence makes him feel to anyone who asks. Which, in my opinion, is only fair. |
