GALE ✧

» Clan Leader
» tough › easygoing › charismatic
» any pronouns, she/they preferred

"A brief quote or something"

A founder of the clan and protector of all Windswept. Her friendliness and laid-back smile bely honed instincts and a passion for battle, remnants of her mercenary days.

"Hey, I'm Gale! Wherever you came from, whatever you're here for, I hope you have some fun while you're around."

A former mercenary turned clan leader. Her Charge is all of the Windswept, and though she does now take the form of a Skydancer to be closer to the wind, she has not forgotten her Guardian instincts.

She is very laid-back and and almost infinitely patient, and it is practically impossible to annoy or faze her; she tends to find most everything merely amusing. While such a lackadaisical attitude probably does not serve a clan completely well, things regularly seem to work out well thanks to her time-trained instincts. She once used to be even more free-spirited, chasing the most recent of her own whims (even founding this clan was apparently something she had not really planned on), though the responsibility of running a clan has since held her back somewhat. She welcomes all into the clan, regardless of intention or background (as long as they do not pose a severe and immediate threat), based on her almost uncanny accuracy in judging character and belief. As rough around the edges as she is, she is more empathetic and perceptive than she tends to let on, and these strengths have been heightened by the abilities of a usual Skydancer. However, she continues to be affectionately teased by clanmates for being oblivious to more obvious things, such as Cyclone's romantic interest in her son Marin.

Her charisma and outgoing friendliness endear her to the clan, but her overwhelming strength (both physical and mental) also win her the members' respect. She no longer fights as often as she used to due to being mired in administrative duties most of the time. Nevertheless, she never misses a day in keeping her skills sharp. New members and visitors often do not see her “second side” for a while, but after seeing her in a single battle, it becomes quite obvious that she is a monstrous veteran of combat. Unfortunately, this level of skill is limited to physical combat, as even after her breed change, she remains notoriously awful at anything beyond completely basic magic. Similarly, her mind for battle and her reflexes have been honed over the years, but this quickness doesn't seem to extend beyond the actual battlefield, as she has proven regularly to not be the sharpest tool in the shed.

In battle, she is plenty destructive on her own, but she synchronizes best with her mate, Squall, as well as her good friend, Cierzo. Any combination of the three is bound to flatten any enemy in their path. When not fighting on her own, she prefers to take an almost exclusively defensive stance, absorbing hits for all of her comrades to allow them to focus on taking down the opponents, occasionally finding opportunities to deliver one or two heavy attacks.

Born in the peaceful Zephyr Steppes, Gale spent her hatchling years living contentedly within the Windsinger's domain. Though she has always felt a love for adventure, she felt little need to explore farther beyond the reaches of the already vast Windswept Plateau; there were plenty of secrets to uncover here. She was certain that she would have the time to see the rest of Sornieth during the upcoming Search, and planned to see all she could of her own home before departing.

Eventually, upon her coming of age, Gale set off on the Search, as any other Guardian would, determined to find something grand and impressive worth protecting. However, as the time she had enjoyed traveling grew longer and longer, she realized she had racked up quite the list of taleworthy exploits, but had no success in finding something she felt enough of a draw to to consider her Charge. She made the decision to put her adventuring on the back-burner and joined up with a traveling mercenary band for money and board. These dragons asked few questions of new recruits; they welcomed her in wholeheartedly as long as she agreed to follow the leader's rules.

She did not intend to stay long. But in only a few months' time, she found it difficult to bring herself to leave. The mercs had befriended her quite quickly, as she was quite outgoing and all of them were a generally friendly bunch, and she picked up a wide variety of fighting techniques and other odd skills from the lot of them. Gale found herself having great fun in their rowdy company. Soon, after almost a decade of working random tasks and battling for jobs and for fun, locals had begun to recognize their names. She and her comrades even managed to get called heroes in some nearby towns that they had often fought for—they were a coarse group, but their ironwilled leader kept their morals in line. “To fight for justice and profit” was the informal slogan they lived by, fighting voluntarily for the villages that treated them well and refusing to serve unscrupulous figures. She enjoyed the untethered life of a freelance fighter who got to live merely off of the rush of thrilling combat each day and the cheerful post-battle celebrations, and it still felt like she had a purpose alongside everyone (even without a Charge of her own).

The parties they held at the local taverns after each successful job were when they could ramble about secret worries or concerns, as they would typically be either forgotten or resolved by the next morning. Gale had gotten to know the mercs like family, and just as she knew their concerns quite well, they were all aware of her pushed-aside yet growing worries about her lack of a Charge. One night, Gale asked what Charge that Cairn, their leader and only a slightly older Guardian, had chosen. Though Gale wasn't entirely sure they had processed the question entirely (they had ordered more than a few shots), but it was something along the lines of, “Isn't it obvious?”.

A few days later, after completing her preparations, she said farewell to her mercenary friends and returned home to the Windswept Plateau. Admittedly, she wasn't entirely sure about her intentions upon her departure, only that Cairn's Charge had given her enough inspiration for her own, but she had figured it out clearly by the time she arrived back at her home flight.

✧ Squall ✧

The first dragon Gale met on her return trip to the Windswept Plateau, and the first she shared her idea for a clan with. Their encounter was one determined only by chance, but they seemed to click almost instantly over their shared experiences of traveling, even though wandering warriors were hardly a rarity among the dragons of the Wind Flight. He found himself uncharacteristically intrigued by Gale's vision of a clan that would serve as a roost for those like them, and figured it wouldn't hurt to tag along and help her for a bit, chalking it up to another new experience. They found it easy to talk to each other and became fast friends while setting up. Their relationship transitioned naturally into a romantic one, such that they don't even remember the day of their “official” anniversary and just write it as their meeting date. Currently, they serve as joint clan leaders, with their idealistic and pragmatic natures complementing each other in their work. They were clear from the start that Squall never planned to stay forever, and Gale has encouraged him to follow the wind as he desires. However, he seems to reluctant to leave even after all this time—a concern that neither have formally brought up, but remain acutely aware of.

✧ Lombarde ✧

The eldest of her children by a few minutes, but perhaps the farthest from any of the family in personality. While Lombarde does not share many similar interests with Gale or Squall, they get along well. He and Marin still come over for family dinners every once in a while, even after moving into their own homes. Most of Lombarde's interest in fashion is lost on his parents and younger brother, Marin, but they all recognize each other's passions and lend a willing (if not clueless) ear to each other's concerns when they speak. Upon Gale's request, though, Lombarde was delighted to lend her a hand in picking out some apparel that was more befitting of a true leader. She still finds all the flowy silks and golden armor a bit too showy for her tastes, but she trusts Lombarde's judgment well enough. She is happy to see him thriving as a designer for all of their other clanmates, as well.

62217676.png

✧ Marin ✧

The middle child of Gale's three sons, but perhaps the one of the most concern. His determination to follow in his parents' footsteps despite his obvious interest in more peaceful pastimes constantly worry Gale and Squall, less so for his safety (since it is obvious he can handle himself) and more for his mental health. They, along with Lombarde, do their best to subtly push him in the direction that all of them, seemingly save for Marin himself, see that Marin's heart wants to follow, but he has also managed to inherit his parents' stubbornness and resolve. She is happy to have a nice relationship with him, but would perhaps be more happy to hear him talk about things other than battle tactics, which he so obviously is forcing himself to pursue.

✧ Abroholos ✧

The youngest of her children, who currently serves directly under the Gladekeeper. She and Squall are both wanderers and encourage all to go where the wind guides them, but they were still sad to see him depart for another clan. After he announced his exaltation, they were overjoyed for his success but still heartbroken about the loss of contact. She and Squall wish him well, as they at least know he's got their strength in body and mind, and must have been doing just fine to earn such a high honor in the first place.

Moss-Covered Golem While not as common as their other requests for muscle, requests for protection did come into Cairn's band sometimes, usually from researchers or treasure hunters who wanted a shield between them and any threats lurking in any ruins. The defunct golem somehow caught her eye during a sweep of a decrepit temple. Her clients, seeing no value in it, were fine with her holding onto it, and she was later able to get it repaired by an eccentric visitor to town. When it came to life, she was immediately taken by its endearing personality and its cat-like antics. It also seems to carry some interesting memories of assisting the archivist of a long-gone temple and of some long-past battles it took part in. Occasionally, it will visit Pavane or Canon to help out with organizing clan records or the correspondence archives.
