ORATORIO ✧

» Scribe

The clan's official scribe, though not in the traditional sense—instead, Gale has tasked him with chronicling each Windswept's story. —Canon

“There's something about you that... Well, I guess I just feel like I can trust you. And I feel that everyone can. And that maybe that's dangerous, somehow... But, well, you're just the kinda weirdo dragon Caelbloom is for, isn't it, heh? So I'll be leaving our story to you... Oratorio.” —Gale

You aren't quite sure where your own story should begin.

When you awoke that day, you were certain it was the same as any other, that you were an ordinary dragon the same as any other... and yet, there was something strange about that morning, about you. Your memories, your name, your family, and even your body—you knew, with certainty, that they were yours. And yet, you... And yet...

Sornieth. Oratorio. The names felt both familiar and foreign on your tongue. You knew you were on a journey now, that you had set off to explore years ago, once you were old enough, as was normal for most Wind dragons. You had spent the day before and this morning in a small clan's inn before heading out again.

You could remember the deep, desperate tug of wanderlust that set you adrift, and you could remember soaring through the bitterly cold air of the Southern Icefield, stumbling through the perpetual darkness of the Tangled Wood, and exploring the dry crags of Dragonhome.

You could remember that this desire had lead you around Sornieth, and it had brought you back here, to the Windsinger's domain, on this ordinary morning. It was a longing that you understood to permeate—no, radiate—from your soul; it was the wish, the ache, of the globetrotting Windsinger's children, and yet it didn't feel like yours. It simply felt most appropriate that this journey should continue here, in the Windswept Plateau, as this foreign yearning in your heart had, still, not yet abated.

You checked out of the inn and continued to wander. And as luck would have it, that day was when you stumbled onto the Caelbloom Roost.

Gale has welcomed in all sorts of questionable characters since the clan's founding, from runaway princes and fast-talking conmen to wanted pirates and ex-assassins. She has been laughably lenient about new denizens' natures, granting (conditional) entry to even the most dangerous of these Windswept, so it was a real shock to nearly everyone when she expressed her reluctance to permit your own entrance into the clan (on the basis of "gut instinct"). Truthfully, she was surprised too. But there was something about your eyes that she couldn't ignore.

You knew the normal course of action would be to simply leave discreetly after being turned away like this. And yet... something about this clan felt right in a way that little else did. Even this body's wild heart seemed to settle here. It seemed to finally stir for what it saw, and not what it desired.

After an earnest show of stubbornness, Gale gave you her tentative approval, with one condition—to serve as the scribe of the Windswept's stories.

Encouraging Quill Once an ordinary writer's quill, now animated by the strange magicks of the Night of the Nocturne, this floating pen is possessed of a lively and positive disposition. It seems to have taken a particular shine to you. It typically hovers over your shoulder during writing sessions, jotting down suggestions and offering silent company. During interviews and other outings, it constantly tries to take down notes on its own, though when you forget to keep some sort of paper nearby, what it chooses to write on can be unpredictable—you have had to hold it back from scribbling on all sorts of media ranging from adjacent walls, tableware, and even on nearby dragons' backs. Not writing at all seems to be out of the question for this tool when it is struck by inspiration (nor does it ever seem to run out of ink). Its own writing style is rather flowery and much better suited to fiction and fantasy, and it seems to want you to try something besides straight biographies once in a while. On days off, you can sometimes spot it wandering away on its own towards the library.
