CircusTent - Karamel was once the protege of another travelling dragon, a Spiral named CircusTent. The two have since gone their separate ways, but Karamel has fond memories of dangling forty feet above the air with broken glass in her mouth beneath a moat of crocodiles with her old teacher.
However, she and Circus eventually reunited at Crow Callers, finding out that Circus was living there permanently now.

Tobias - An employee at the Traveller's Lodge in Crow Callers. She quickly took a liking to him for his sense of humor, and consider each other MTF/FTM solidarity.

Owen - An employee at the Traveller's Lodge at Crow Callers. He was the one that gave Karamell her lei in response to her teaching him how to balance more efficiently.

Jules - A former travelling dragon that now works at the Traveller's Lodge at Crow Callers. He told Karamell about CircusTent's daughter, Cornelia, and now Karamell has an interest in meeting Cornelia someday.

60301330p.png
Joaquin - An employee at the Traveller's Lodge at Crow Callers. He watched one of Karamell's performances and Karamell gave him some advice.

50602208p.png
Jacques - An employee at the Traveller's Lodge at Crow Callers, who apparently travelled for a short amount of time himself. He's CircusTent's son in law. He also watched and enjoyed one of Karamell's performances.

61838496p.png
BurntCake - An employee at the Traveller's Lodge at Crow Callers. She initially lashed out at Karamell for accidentally bumping into her, but later enjoyed her performance - and even helped.

62021093p.png
Pineapple - One of Cornelia's sons, who briefly met Karamell. He became inspired by her, and they hope they'll see each other again one day.

47708860p.png 47708861p.png
Naxo and Harper - The leaders of Crow Callers, who welcomed her in and later told her about the clan, the travelling dragons that reside in it, and even former travellers that now live in the clan.

Molli - A young dragon who helped ease her when a little clan did not quite warm to her. Made a little promise, that the clan would be in a better place for joviality if she should return again.

Quite a few juggling balls; she says it's because she frequently loses them, but you're getting a nagging feeling she's addicted to buying the things. Oh, look, in the time that you looked away from her stash, she's acquired two more. Fascinating.

A former travelling dragon, Karamell has since found her permanent home and lives in Crow Callers now.

Karamel - or Karamell, the extra "l" added to her stage name for a little more flair, or so she says - is a circus carnie through and through. True, she knows her fair share of balancing acts, and has swallowed a good amount of swords and live fishes alike. But what really gets the crowds invested is when you get 'em going on a one-on-one basis, and that's the job of the circus carnie - the freak shows, the strongdragons, the palm readers of the circus tract. And Karamel knows a little bit of everything regarding that line of work, picking up new acts like fleas. She takes a great deal of pride in her work, and she has every reason to - almost every clan she goes to, she ends up walking away with bagfuls of coins thanks to her uncanny ability to predict with near certainty what kind of acts go well in what clans. Where does that money go to? Buying more juggling balls, mostly. She's got bit of an unusually large collection of the things.

Karamel is trans, using she/her pronouns.

BlueStopSigns, Signs Clan wrote:
Karamell spent a peaceful couple weeks with the Signs Clan. The Clan's Matriarch, Noodle, protested quite loudly at the idea of Karamell teaching the hatchlings any of her Circus skills so she used her love of juggling to earn her keep helping the Clan's Arcane master. She impressed him greatly by juggling his chemistry bottles to shake up the mixtures inside. She has a standing invite from Moldbygg to return and help him again anytime.

As I arrived in Crow Callers, I was met with a friendly crowd of dragons: Naxo and Harper, the leaders of the clan, a Tundra and Guardian; Joaquin, a Spiral with adventure in his eyes who helped me set down my bags; Tobias, a Wildclaw, and fellow trans dragon with an opportunistic nature who welcomed me in; Owen, another Wildclaw who served me some refreshments; Jacques, a kind and funny Ridgeback; BurntCake, a Banescale... and finally, a familiar face.

"CircusTent??" I asked, bewildered.

"Karamell??" she asked back. Both of us broke into excited, happy cheering.

"I can't believe it's you!" I exclaimed, happy to see my old mentor again. "But weren't you a traveller?"

"I was," Circus explained, "This clan really did call to me, though. It had the perfect audience, and I even found myself a mate - a Ridgeback known as Mathwin! I planned to live here next time I came to the clan, and guess what I did!"

"I can see why you decided to stay; this is a pretty nice clan. Also, that new suit does look pretty nice on you, if I say so myself!" I told her.

"Have you ever thought of living somewhere permanently?" Circus asked me.

"I don't know." I told her, shrugging. "This clan is nice, but travelling is the life for me. But now that I've found the clan you're living in, well... I might return here frequently."

"I'm glad to hear that. No pressure; do whatever seems right to you! I support you either way." Circus told me, as she began to walk away. "Regardless, it's really nice to see you again - I missed you. We'll talk later, alright?"

"Alright!" I told her.

Afterwards, I noticed Tobias, the Wildclaw that welcomed me in earlier. "Catching up with an old friend, are you?" he asked.

"Oh, you have no idea how far back CircusTent and I go. Anyway, how long were you over there?" I told Tobias.

"Pretty much the whole time." Tobias said. "And I understand perfectly - plenty of travellers build relationships on their travels, be it familial, platonic, or even romantic."

"Have you ever built a relationship with a travelling dragon?" I asked.

"Oh, plenty! I already have a mate in this clan - another Wildclaw named Fiddler - but I've made quite a few friends with travellers." Tobias explained.

"I hope to see more of my old friends." I said.

"Amen to that, sister." Tobias said. I had a feeling like I'd get along with him very well.

The next morning, I discovered Owen struggling to carry several trays of refreshments. "Need any help with that?" I asked him. Owen nodded, and let me take some of the trays, skillfully balancing them.

"Wow! How'd you do that?" he asked.

"Ask me to do it and I promise you, I'll learn." I told him. "It's not just limited to circus tricks!"

"Do you have any tips?" Owen asked me.

"It takes practice, lots of practice - but I promise that it's not so hard when you figure it out." I told him. "Distribute the trays evenly; and move slowly while you're doing it!"

Owen tried it out, but quickly fell over. He dropped the trays, causing the teapots and teacups on them to shatter.

"Like I said, practice makes perfect. That's alright; just be sure to know when you've reached your limits!" I told him. Owen picked up the broken pieces.

"I'm glad I tried. I can glue these back together, don't worry!" Owen told me, then perked up. "I have a surprise for you. I'll be right back!" Owen ran off.

As I waited for Owen, I noticed CircusTent near me, seeming just as excited as she usually is. "So, have you decided yet?" she asked.

"On what?" I asked.

"If you wanna stay here or not." she said.

"Oh. Well, I plan to return, but I probably won't stay here unless I return several times and I get tired of travelling." I admitted.

"Okay." Circus said, and I noticed Owen come back.

"This is the surprise." he said, holding out a lei made of daisies. "I made it myself; in fact, I made the flower crown and tail lei myself, too."

I put on the lei. "Thank you so much!" I told him.

"No, thank you for helping me balance my trays!" Owen told me. "I think I might have the hang of it now."

A few days later, a fellow Tundra known as Jules was employed at the Traveller's Lodge. I decided to talk with him at a table. He seemed like a very friendly Tundra, after all - and apparently, he's a retired traveller.

"I suppose you settled down here for the same reason Circus did." I said.

"Sort of. I was travelling for a long time, but the second time I arrived here, I felt like I should stay." he explained. "It feels... homey."

"I see what you mean." I said. "Circus found a mate when she arrived here, and came back because of him."

"Oh, you mean Mathwin. I can see why. Mathwin's a pretty cool guy, and in fact, he and CircusTent had a few hatchlings." Jules explained.

"I didn't know she had hatchlings!" I said in surprise.

"Yep, there were 3 of them. One of them went travelling like you, and her name is Cornelia." Jules explained.

"I'd like to meet Cornelia someday." I told him.

"I did once. She's a Ridgeback with a talent for performance, and I think she'd like you." Jules told me.

I nodded, thanking Jules for telling me about Cornelia. As I walked out of the Traveller's Lodge to look around, I unexpectedly crashed into three of the dragons that greeted me - Joaquin, Jacques, and BurntCake.

"Oh, sorry!" I tried to say.

"Hey, watch where you're going!" BurntCake scolded, but Joaquin reprimanded her.

"You're gonna have to forgive her, BurntCake can be a little... aggressive." Joaquin told me. I understood.

"Quino, you were gonna ask her about her tricks." Jacques told him.

"Oh, right!" Joaquin said. "I know you were a student of CircusTent. I saw some of her performances, and I was wondering if you knew anything about those tricks."

"Of course I do." I said, as I began juggling a few balls. I had BurntCake throw a few extra balls to me - including a watermelon.

"Wow! How does she do that?" Jacques remarked, seeming obviously impressed.

At this point, I was juggling 10 balls and a watermelon. To finish my act, I caught all 10 balls in a satchel, and caught the watermelon in the other claw. The three dragons cheered, and I decided to split open the watermelon. I offered it to them, but they politely declined - none of these breeds typically ate plants.

"As for how I do it, well... it takes a lot of practice." I told them. "And it doesn't matter what breed you are. I know you may think more lithe and agile breeds are best for this, but even bigger and bulkier breeds could do many of these tricks if they wished."

"I'd assume it was difficult for CircusTent to avoid tying herself in knots." Joaquin admitted. "Sometimes that's a little hard for me - in fact, there's another Spiral in this clan who regularly ties himself in knots, and often needs his boyfriend's help to get him out."

"Probably." I told him. I then thanked the three dragons for being such a good audience, and decided to find the leaders of the clan.

On the way there, I met a Ridgeback hatchling who was known as Pineapple.

"That was awesome!" he exclaimed, implying he watched my performance.

Jacques came over to us. "Ah, he's my son. He's impressed by almost everything, but I truly understand him here." he said. "His mother is a performer as well. I guess he likes watching performances for that reason."

"What's his mom's name?" I asked.

"Cornelia. Most beautiful Ridgeback I've ever met!" Jacques told me.

"Oh, she's CircusTent's daughter! I'm hoping I can meet her one day." I told him.

"Can I come with? I wanna be a travelling dragon as well!" Pineapple asked.

"Well, I'm gonna stay here for a little while longer, but I appreciate the offer! I hope to see you again." I told him, as I continued to walk over to where the leaders of the clan resided.

As I found myself with Naxo and Harper, I decided to speak with them.

"Ah, Karamell! We're glad to see you again." Naxo said.

"I'm glad to see you, too. I came to ask a few questions, mostly about this clan and the travellers that come to it." I said.

"Oh, sure. Harper and I started this clan after fleeing from our old ones, and since then we've decided to accept any dragons that come to us." Naxo explained.

"We originally wanted our name to have something to do with the phoenix, since we essentially rose from the ashes; but it was a much more fitting name for a Fire clan. To keep with the Plague/Shadow theme, we named the clan Crow Callers - which still worked. Crows are known to symbolize intelligence and flexibility." Harper explained.

"How about the Traveller's Lodge?" I asked.

"We only established it recently, but it's been a major success so far. We've met dragons from all over Sornieth!" Naxo explained.

"Some dragons only stay to spend the night, while some of them stay for longer." Harper explained. "Sometimes we even get travellers who return, and on rare occasion, stay permanently."

"I was gonna ask about that, too." I said.

"Are you planning on staying here permanently?" Naxo asked.

"Well, I plan to return at least once, and I might stay if I ever grow tired of travelling." I told them. They both nodded.

"That's understandable." Harper said.

"I'm planning to leave here tomorrow morning, but I'd love to return soon!" I told them, as I went back to the Traveller's Lodge.

On my final day here, I began to pack up. Tobias was helping me out.

"You're going now?" he asked.

"Yeah. But don't worry, I'll be back soon. I've even considered staying here permanently one day - go ahead and tell CircusTent that." I told him.

"I hope I'll see you again soon." Tobias told me.

"Me too. This clan has been quite nice so far, and hopefully I'll return." I told him, as I finished packing up my bags. As I waited at the Crossroads, I noticed the dragons from the Traveller's Lodge standing nearby. They wanted to say goodbye.

"Well, so long for now." I told them.

"It was nice seeing you again!" CircusTent told me. After that, I decided to fly off - hoping my next clan would bring me just as much adventure. As I flew, I thought about what working at the Traveller's Lodge with CircusTent and my new friends would be like.

For a few nights I wandered, through the plague-fields, until at last I found myself on the opposite edge; a small village- or commune- in the distance, where I found a number of travelers like myself. Tragically, they didn't seem to want much from me. Even when I set myself to the task to bringing a smile to one of them, he seemed almost embarrassed by my performance.

"I wouldn't worry too much about it," a little voice addressed; "he's painfully shy at best, and almost constantly mortified at worst."
I turned, spying a little Fae who introduced herself as Molli. "It wouldn't hurt him to laugh a little," I shook my head; "he seems so stiff. A lot of the folks here do."
"It can't be helped- they are each stuck in their stories at a point which is low, so to say. But I hope you know I found it most amusing." There was a gentleness to Molli's eyes, as she fluttered over, perched on Karamell's horns. "I hope, as you wander, you find a place more hospitable to your bright colors and laughter. It's a shame it doesn't suit these people, now."
"Hmm?" Now, perhaps it is the way Fae speak in general, so calmly and unwaveringly, or perhaps it is the way Molli chose her words so strangely, but I found myself both confused and comforted by her. "Oh- yes, but like you said, they can't help it- or rather, it can't be helped. Thank you," I added, smiling- although from her perch she couldn't see it.

After a few days in their inn, I was ready to return to the road. Perhaps the future would bring me back, and by then they might be happier, or ready to be happier. I could only hope, as I spread my wings and set off once more.

As I returned to Crow Callers, I was amazed by what had changed since then. Several new dragons had arrived since then - and I was more than excited to see my friends once more.

I was even asked if I had made up my mind about whether or not I wanted to stay here - I decided to stay. CircusTent told me that she had met quite a few more performing travellers during my absence, and I sure hope to see them; I've decided to work alongside her in the Traveller's Lodge!

@Hyzenthlaay here! This dragon is officially a part of the "Around the World in 365 Dergs" challenge. Check out the thread for information and more travelers like this! ...or just read the following:
  • The general idea is that I am going to create 365 unique traveling dragons, send them off into the world, and see what happens. I'm also going to complete mini-challenges along the way using travelers. If that interests you, consider checking the challenge thread out!
  • I don't want to overflood the system with just my dragons, so adopting travelers from me to live in your lair is totally fine! In fact, I'm betting on it. Just let me know.
  • Always feel free to tell me when you have this dragon in your lair! I love hearing updates.
