Empire of Death: The Veiled Sanctuary
g1Sp6FO.png
Shortly prior to her hatching, the Empire of Death had received a prophecy from their seer telling of chosen ones who would command future sub clans in their empire. While one was obvious, Shroud was born much too closely to Sanctus for them to know which of them was the true chosen one. Even from a young age, the banescale knew the pearlcatcher had it out for her. It saddened the hatchling to know that she'd made an enemy so young and the pressure to find who was the true chosen one often weighed on her small wings. The knowledge that some dragons clearly didn't think she could ever be the chosen one due to sharing elements with the empire's leader, Cerberus hurt as well. Just because they were both Plague when none of the current chosen ones shared an element didn't mean anything in her own opinion.

So as she grew up, Shroud knew she'd have to face these challenges. Either she rose up to fight for a birthright she didn't know if she wanted or not, or Sanctus would destroy her. So long as she was alive, the pearlcatcher obviously wouldn't feel secure. With how cold the pearlcatcher was, Shroud realized she couldn't allow the shiny-scaled ice dragon to rule over a clan! Once she heard word that Sanctus was choosing a commander and building an army to go to war, she followed suit and found her own commander. Ironically, the two had chosen sisters who also looked like night and day of each other.

The war raged on, lives lost on either side. Shroud watched her army from the shadows, not participating in the fighting yet. However, unlike her opponent, the banescale would often visit to discuss plans and give aid to her troops in the form of training and strategies. The young dragon grew into a leader whether she realized it or not. With the loyalty and respect of her army, her confidence in herself was boosted and the resolve to win cemented itself in her mind. When the final battle arrived, she didn't hesitate to fight with her army. The banescale took on Sanctus herself, fighting fiercely against her.

Shroud drove them out of the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. The toll had been great but the banescale had earned the right to be the chosen one, commander of what would become the Veiled Sanctuary. Setting up the new clan had been a lot of work but nothing she couldn't handle. While their numbers were small at first, they would grow in time as other members of the Empire of Death joined them or outsiders came to live with them.

Sanctus still proved to be a problem, enlisting others to spy and attack her home, but her dragons were trained well and her former commander's heir, Halo, was one of her best fighters. In fact, Halo was so good that Shroud had promoted the spiral to a member of her royal guard. The banescale knows that one day the pearlcatcher may make good on her promise to return and get revenge. While the Veiled Sanctuary is currently peaceful, she and the rest of the empire will be ready if Sanctus ever does return from wherever she'd flown off to.
