Aureola

Aureola was born to a tradition of Necromancers, her mother an esteemed researcher of ghouls and her father a shaman to their clan. Although there were some rumours surrounding her mother's family history and her reasons for studying ghouls, she grew up learning the ways of necromancy. Due to her lineage, and her own ambitions, she decided to face her trials and gain her title early, hoping to become one of the youngest dragons to become a true Necromancer. She was encouraged by her family, who were happy to see her talent and enthusiasm for their path in life. However, when she reached the Rotrock Rim (naturally sitting as close to the Wrymwound as she could reasonably bear), she found herself in over her head. Horrible stenches rolled through the air, pouring out from the bubbling heart of the Wyrmwound. The life growing over its edges, twisted trees with branches that looked suspiciously like bones, shuddered in the wind, and all it took was a little bit of imagination for Aureola to see them grasping to pull her in. The first trial, the disease taking hold, was no trouble.

But after the 23 days of meditation, she couldn't quite get it to leave. She stumbled back from the Rotrock Rim on the edge of death, her wings shredded by the infection, but with a Necromancer's characteristic blood-red stripes colouring their edges. She was quickly healed by the more accomplished Necromancers in the clan and congratulated on her success. They expected her to take on the mantle of a leader of ambassador like her mother, but she was shaken by her experience of the trials. After taking some time to meditate on her new role and her future as a Necromancer, she decided to leave her home clan and pursue a different aspect of disease.

Having seen symptoms in her father, she went towards the Starfall Isles to study mental illness and the magic surrounding it. Since those disorders are more nebulous than the pustules and sores of her home element, applying nercromantic arts to them is far more difficult. She hopes one day to perfect the skills that her family can perform on a physical illness on a mental one: being able to give and take disease at will.
