Biography

Gale's Thoughts: Dalykris

Ninety-nine percent of the time, fae dragons are completely monotone. Everyone knows this, of course.

Dalykris makes most of the faes I've met feel like dedicated theatre performers. Never have I heard a voice so dry and lifeless as hers. It's chilling. And that voice combined with the creepy mask she always wears? Nope, no thank you, I'm all good over here talking to literally anyone else. There are so many dragons in my clan that are ten times more dangerous than Dalykris, but most of the time I'd rather spend a day with them because eeeehhhhhhhhhh

Okay, okay, focus. Other things about her... she married one of our Chaos Lords. That's only more proof that she's probably not completely in her right mind. The twins have very specific taste; they find one thing about a dragon that's fascinating and hold onto that like a manticore with a skira carcass while they worm their way into your life and pick it apart. It's a bit harder to see what's immediately entrancing about Dalykris than it is someone like Akeno, but I'm close with the twins, so I've been told more about their mates than I ever needed to know. Things I could have maybe picked up on my own, but were told to me about Dalykris by her husband include:

- She's suspiciously good with throwing knives. No one knows where she keeps them, but sometimes one will just appear in her hand and you'd better hope it doesn't come sailing toward your face.

- She rarely speaks. She's another one of the Chiaroscurians that finds most other dragons to be almost unbearably dull, and therefore chooses not to put in the effort to get to know them. Aside from her husband (and by extension, Tweedledee and Akeno), I think the only dragon she ever really speaks to is Gazario. How interesting that she chooses the dragon literally hanging on to his entire existence by a thread to be worthy of her attention, no?

- And finally, she's a dragon who believes one very simple, but existentially terrifying truth: if you choose to ignore the darkness inside of you, then that willful ignorance will be what gets you killed in the end, one way or another. As someone who knows dragons who are too pure for this world based on what I've seen of it, I can't say I think she's completely wrong, but I'll die myself before the scary parts of the world rear their ugly heads and take that innocence away.

Regardless of whatever sentiments and interesting ideas about the world she may hold, I'm perfectly content to leave Dalykris alone from now until talking to her is an absolute necessity. I don't know if it's just the voice that gives me the creeps or the thought of what dangers may lurk behind said voice, but either way I'll leave her to Tweedledum. Whatever it is about her that's made him happy for the many years they've been together is good enough for me to appreciate her, but I can appreciate her from afar.
