Madhava
warrior/prisoner/honored
Scene: Pillow Palace
Simple Pearly Bracelets
Love's Herald

Once a proud warrior of a Plague clan, Madhava was captured by the Exultant Order in a great battle. Held in one of the Order's expansive underground dungeons, Madhava expected to be ransomed or killed━and indeed, both fates were considered for him. However, before either could become reality, Orchid declared she had received tidings from the Ones Apart that Madhava was to be kept within the Order. Madhava himself received few details regarding her decision. All he knows is that she gave an order and from that day forward, his captivity suddenly became much more... luxurious. He was fed fine foods, arrayed in silk finery, and waited upon by attentive caregivers. For the serious and militant Madhava, this was almost worse than his original confinement. At least when he was just another prisoner, he knew where he stood. Now, who knew what these lunatics were planning? Had they decided him royalty? Were they fattening him up for some grand sacrifice? Was it some deviously subtle mind game meant to break his resolve?

After languishing in this overly-comfortable captivity for months, one day, Madhava was rushed out of his cell and brought before Orchid herself. Orchid explained his situation bluntly: a mate had been found for him and, should he accept, he would receive full rights within the Order. Should he refuse, he would remain a prisoner, albeit a well-taken-care-of one, until another suitable mate could be found and he would be given the same choice. Jumping at the opportunity to free himself from that dreadful limbo, Madhava accepted.

In many ways, Madhava's situation is still an uncomfortable one. His mate, Terpsichore, is viewed as next to divinity within the Order and as her mate, he is treated with more respect than most members of the Order. That said, he still does not share the beliefs or ideals of the dragons around him and indeed, despises the Order. Though no longer confined to a cell, he is in many ways still a prisoner of the Order—and the threat of being returned to his cell is an ever-present one.
