As the name of their profession suggests, Xanna and Ash work with light itself: capturing it, manipulating it, fixing it in tangible form. They make lanterns, yes, and glowing stones, but also explosives and reservoirs of great magical power -- for what can be stronger than sunlight, the force which ultimately feeds all Sornieth? They make weapons to smite the undead and unholy, and sometimes they make unholy things themselves. They also make children, and teach them their craft.

Xyremita uses her Lightsmithing talents to craft jewelry. She started on this path early, when she developed a fondness for a beautiful young dragon; Xyremita promised to pull down the stars to hang from her beloved's ears. And so she did, crafting sparkling baubles with the resonance of starstuff -- but all Xyremita's efforts could not overcome her love's affection for another. Xyremita took this news hard, but she recovered, recognizing that her gifts had not obligated the other dragon to love her. She still thinks back on the encounter with sorrow, but without blame, and she even appreciates that the would-have-been relationship drove her to learn such exquisite craft, which she now employs for others. And if, someday, another dragon should come along and enchant Xyremita's heart ... she knows she can craft an even finer gift than before, despite the bittersweet knowledge that gifts may never be enough.
