______ Suki was born in your average Beetle pack, somewhere in the wastelands of Earth territory. As soon as she was able to walk without falling, her parents immediately got to work teaching her to hunt and chase prey. She was taught little in the ways of language or art, or even common battle tactics used by warriors of dragon and Beastclan. Instead, Suki learned more primal and animalistic ways of fighting; the young Mirror learned to run long distances fast without getting tired, how to ambush prey, how to blend into the night and survive the elements, and most importantly, how to fight with the pack. Learning to cooperate and be one with the pack was the most important thing a young Beetle could learn. Alone, they were apt to be defeated, but in a pack they were almost unstoppable. Learning to hunt and kill with her pack-mates took up the majority of Suki's childhood, stopping only to eat, sleep, and migrate. Suki was given only the most basic understanding of language spoken by the dragons, and taught none of their customs. The only use for draconic language was to lower the guard of dragons so that the pack could attack them, for the Beetles spoke in hisses and clicks and other primitive noises, along with exaggerated paw movements. Eventually, Suki was deemed suitable to survive in a smaller pack, and given a name which signified her passage into adulthood. When a section of the larger pack split off, Suki was to join them in their conquest across Sornieth. Suki would have been sad to leave parents, but sadness was considered weak. Letting out a cry would only succeed in getting swatted upside the head with a tail. With that, the small pack of Suki and various older and same-age dragons, some of them her siblings, set off out of Dragonhome.

______ Suki was not the biggest Beetle, nor the strongest. Her carapace hide wasn't the toughest or most durable, and her claws were hardly large enough to make for a good burrower. Instead, her talents lay in her impressive speed, agility, and flexibility. So Suki became a scout, often sent out by the pack first to scope out surroundings. If they spotted a dragon or two, Suki was to immediately run back and alert the pack, then lead the pack to the unlucky dragons. Then, Suki would dash out, disorienting the prey with impressive twists and scuttles, unable to be caught, before the rest of the pack leapt out to finish the job. Sometimes Suki would be seen before they could get close enough to the dragons, and then Suki would play dumb. Use her limited knowledge of draconic language and small stature to lure the dragons into thinking that she was nothing more than a harmless Mirror. Keep up the silly facade until the Beetles were close enough, and then it would all be over. Suki enjoyed her job, and life within the pack. She thought that things couldn't get any better.

______ The pack decided to migrate to the Plaguelands. They could easily conquer the land there, for the Beetles were used to wastelands and hostile adversaries. With their main prey being other dragons, they would get by just fine in the lands of the Plaguebringer. It was there Suki met a rather interesting dragon, one of the likes that she had never seen before. It was at night, and Suki had left her pack's den to seek out some juicy hares to snack on. Instead, she encountered an interesting creature, a feathered dragon(?) of dull brown colors. Although her first instinct was to alert the pack for a midnight snack, Suki pushed down the primal urges. Instead, she crept out of the brush, then suddenly jumped, skidding to a halt right next to the feathered creature. It's plumage puffed out, and Suki could scent the aroma of alarm. It made some panicked humming and screeching noises, which Suki interpreted as a good sign since she hadn't been attacked yet. "Hello!" Suki grinned, loudly proclaiming the word which she used most often when talking to dragons outside of her pack. The feathered creature tipped its head to the side, and Suki copied the motion. It made some more humming noises, causing Suki to become confused. This thing couldn't be a dragon if it didn't speak their language, right? It hummed a few more notes to no avail, then lowered its head in defeat in a sigh. Suki assumed that the creature had given up, and felt some disappointment at the notion.

______ Then, the creature did something curious. It moved its paw around, in a way oddly familiar to Suki. Suki's mouth dropped open in a wide smile. She knew this! Beetles would often gesture to each other to communicate. The side to side waving of a paw-- "Hello"! Suki nodded her head eagerly, tail wagging as she did so. The feathered creature smiled as well. It then shrugged-- was it questioning something? Suki tilted her head, making a chittering noise to indicate confusion. The creature pointed at Suki, then to the ground. "Why was Suki here"? Now Suki was even more confused. She repeated the chittering noise, the shrugged. The feathered creature decided to elaborate. It shuddered, rubbing each paw on opposite arms. Then, it tapped Suki's carapace, then its own feathers. Suki knew the shuddering motion well-- it meant cold. Suki did not like the cold, none of the pack did. But, it wasn't cold right now. Was it going to become cold? Was the creature asking why Suki was in a place that would become cold? Suki said more words then-- "Family. Pack. Together." The creature nodded slowly, seemingly thinking to itself. Suddenly, there was a sound in the distance. The creature looked to it, then back to Suki. It then smiled, shoved something into Suki's paws, and ran off in the opposite direction of the sound. Suki looked at the blue stones in her paws, and chirped in happiness. A gift! She had made-- now what was it called-- a friend! But, the Beetles weren't supposed to have friends that weren't in the pack. Suki decided to keep the meeting her little secret, then went back to her den to sleep the rest of the night away.

______ Life was good for a while. The pack killed, ate, slept, and repeat. It was a simple lifestyle, unburdened by petty relationships or love. Suki got to watch her siblings have their eggs, before they hatched into beautiful baby Beetles. Suki felt her chest swell in pride, knowing that they would make wonderful pack-mates one day. She even got to assist in training some of the smaller ones, showing then that they could succeed even if they were small and weak. Suki also kept up her secret meetings with her feathered friend, getting new gifts and learning how to understand the feathered creature. As it turned out, the creature was actually a dragon, even if it didn't speak their language. It was called a "Coatl", and it's name was "Mirage". When it learned that Suki's name consisted of clicks and chitters, something Mirage couldn't understand nor pronounce, it gave her a new name-- "Suki". Suki repeated the title a few times, and decided that she liked it. She received more gifts from Mirage as time went on. One was an adornment for her upper body, and was warm and snug and matched her scales. Another was some armor for her tail after she had hurt it. Another was a black mask, which Suki heavily adored. The pack did not care where Suki got these garments, and so the Beetle was able to keep her secret. All was well.

______ Then the cold came. It was the worst cold Suki had ever experienced. It made her teeth chatter and her bones ache and it made her carapace feel as if it would split open at any moment. The Beetles huddled together in their den, shivering and afraid. Many curled around Suki, for her gifts kept her warm. The hatchlings cried out for warmth, the eggs froze where they lay. Suki wasn't sure that she was going to make it out of this alive. Defeated, hopeless, she closed her eyes......
Suki awoke in a den with a smoldering fire. When she looked around, she spotted a few baby Beetles nestled in a blanket, and Mirage. Mirage would later go on to explain that a feud between Ice and Plague had caused the worst winter Plague had ever seen, even though Plague came out victorious. Suki didn't know what any of it meant. "Pack", she croaked, before gulping down water from a bowl Mirage had set out for her.

Mirage shook her head.

______ S uki recovered from her frostbite soon enough, but didn't dare leave the cozy cottage while the winds were still howling. The hatchlings were scared, but Suki explained to them that Mirage was a friend. Slowly but surely, Mirage taught Suki the language of the Coatl, and the Mirror Beetle learned it so well that she could speak Coatl hums and notes better than she could speak the basic draconic the pack had taught her. Mirage taught Suki all sorts of different dragon customs and traditions, the different types of dragons, their deities, and Suki found herself getting dizzy from all of the information. While the cold wind blew and the fire roared, Suki and Mirage grew closer. When spring came, the baby Beetles left, explaining how they still wanted to be in the pack. But they appreciated everything Mirage had done to teach them, promising to stay in touch. But, Suki wanted to stay with Mirage. The Coatl was elated. Years passed, and Suki found herself falling in love with Mirage. At first she was conflicted, not knowing if a Beetle like her, who had been raised in a pack that knew only to kill, could be suitable for a graceful and elegant Coatl like Mirage. Likewise, Mirage was having a similar problem, too nervous to confess and thinking that Suki was too cool and tough to want to be with her. Each assumed that the other was out of their league, and that they just wanted to be friends. But in the end, both confessed, and low live happily together. They often go exploring together, protecting each other from whatever dangers they may face. Though they each hail from different walks of life, they couldn't be happier with where they are now.

______ Recently, something interesting has happened. Well, three interesting things at that. While exploring a cave, the two learned firsthand that some gems and stones are more than meet the eye. One stone healed all the scars Suki had sustained from the frostbite, amending them with tough and flexible obsidian-like material. Another changed Mirage's body colors altogether. The last was a shining white crystal obelisk that Suki had accidentally knocked down, and when it shattered, out popped a Fae. Unsurprisingly, Suki and Mirage adopted it immediately, even though they can hardly understand it. So far, they're getting along just fine.

Notes:

--Named after a cat my best friend owns
--Chaotic neutral
--Has retractable teeth; when they aren't out, they look like a bunch of little baby teeth sticking out from her gums, but when she actually brings them out, it's apparent that it's just one giant tooth. The teeth have points, but they aren't actually disconnected, like regular teeth. Imagine having a metal jaw where it's all just one big part, and though there are spikes, they aren't separate. That's what Suki's teeth look like.
--Very catlike, often stretches upon waking and likes to laze about in sunbeams
--Very gay
--Mirage is actually her girlfriend
--Would fight an Imperial for her girlfriend
--Morally ambiguous, may or may not have eaten a Skydancer once or twice
--"THEY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN OKAY"
--Loud and obnoxious at times, but very very sweet to her girlfriend
--Is terrifying when she wants to be
--I don't think she knows what Faes are
--"MIRAGE I FOUND A WEIRD CAT-LOOKIN' THING
IT'S GOT BUG EYES"
"Dearest, that's a Fae. They are dragons like us."
"*distressed Fae noises*"
"Oh... WELL IN THAT CASE I'M ADOPTING IT
WE HAVE A CHILD NOW"
"Suki no"
"SUKI Y E S"

Earth Beetles will be found in small packs, living among sand and rock. These carnivores hunt during the day, and have impressive speed and agility. Their tough carapace hide makes them durable, and their thick claws make for excellent burrowing. Many offspring have been seen with multi-limb mutations, and the Imperials with this mutation are often mistaken for massive Corpse Cleaners. Keep wary of these predators!
