Biography
Anasa
Anasa is always hot on Suvi’s heels as her personal attendant, following her older sister’s every step and always offering to cater to her every whim. Suvi, meanwhile, is quite overwhelmed by and uncomfortable with this attention, and is always trying to gently encourage Anasa to pursue other activities. And so Anasa has. When she’s not by Suvi’s side, Anasa is a dragon of high society who enjoys ballroom dancing, socializing, admiring high art, and throwing parties.
Of all of her siblings, Anasa is the most aware that she is a daughter of Screechfang and Skytail, and therefore a princess, and therefore she should be treated like a princess. Even when she’s supporting Suvi, she’s trying to encourage her to live a life of luxury and whimsy. Suvi, meanwhile, knows that leadership isn’t about wealth and fun, but responsibility. But Suvi’s gentle admonishments don’t stop Anasa from enjoying her lifestyle. To Anasa, what is the point of being the daughter of the clan leaders if all that title brings is more work?
Anasa’s high class, good manners, and gracefulness ended up winning the heart of the clan’s accountant and treasurer, Heitor. While Anasa does indeed greatly love Heitor, secretly what she loves more is the perks being his mate brings. It’s a kind of nepotism for her, one she is more than willing to take advantage of. Anasa isn’t afraid to give Heitor a little more affection if it means he will allocate more funds for the extravagant, high-society lifestyle of his mate and their children.
Anasa’s biggest weakness is soft pillows. She loves pillows, and believes above all else that she is entitled to soft bedding. She has successfully coerced Poppy into signing off on her so-called need for special bedding, and drifts off to sleep every night surrounded by a massive nest of satin pink pillows.
To Cadfael, Anasa is a symbol of everything wrong with the current monarchy. She’s self-centered, takes advantage of her position for her selfish wants, and wastes time on things he considers needlessly extravagant and foolish. But to Anasa, she’s just having fun, and taking her rightful place in the world. After all, she is a princess, and why wouldn’t she demand to be treated like one?
