» D R E I G O N «
Prophet of the Blood Moon

“The wars waged by my ancestors is not my burden to carry! There must be balance, lest all be lost beyond the veil.”

When banescales first emerged from their centuries-long seclusion, Dreigon stood faceless amongst his brothers and sisters. The song he sang was not his own; the air he breathed was not his to take; and the anger and resentment his brethren forged into burning determination with pounding hearts was not meant for the world he saw before him.

For his silence in the thunderous halls of their final roost, Dreigon was named an outcast. When they took flight, the single purple-scaled banecale was left to fend for himself, and he might have perished if it was not for the song that began to echo above him in a haze of crimson mist - calling for the banescale to move, to fly until his wings could carry his weight no more, so that he might find another place of safety to call his own.

His salvation came in the form of Zeria; a lone guardian lost in her grief, but still willing to give.

Zeria practised moon magic deep within the recesses of a land unknown to Dreigon, sheltered by benevolent spirits and protected by powers far greater than themselves, and it was through her guidance that the banescale came to understand his true purpose. Zeria told him much of the moon and her many phases, how each face their celestial goddess wore would bestow upon them powers of varying potency, and how their fates were always predetermined - Zeria’s full potential only arose during the full moon, but Dreigon was not the same as she. Another phase, another facet of the inner truth, was where he would find the answers he so desperately sought.
The first time Dreigon had witnessed the blood moon for himself instilled the then young prophet with terror. The normally crystalline waters of his moon pool darkened to freshly spilt blood, and the gentle scent of jasmine flowers as they bloomed beneath the moon’s gaze left the unmistakable taste of iron upon his tongue; otherworldly, fear-inducing, yet oddly alluring. Drawn to the pool, Dreigon dared to pray to the murderous orb that hung low in the sky above him and, in return, was filled with such strength that he’d never felt before. While the moon usually had a calming effect, this phase served to invigorate him, filling him with a strange sense of determination, and calling for him to give his own to bring honour and bloodshed. The feeling was something he had never before experienced, but, as Dreigon dared to listen closer to the melody of his heart, there came a song most familiar.

The song that had saved him in his youth had been the voice of the blood moon as it called to him, and, as he bathed in the glory, he finally understood what was being asked of him.

The banescale raised a foreclaw, piercing his own flesh with a hooked talon and allowing his blood to join the moon pool below. The ripples of pain from his minor injury were lost beneath the surface, forgotten even before he acknowledged them, and, in harmony with his sacrifice, Dreigon felt his very life force surge. To the unknowing priest, the blood moon did call for war and bloodshed. However, blessed by its embrace from so early an age, the moon priest understood that what it truly called for was balance, and it was blood that proved to be instrumental in providing that balance.

Most who dare to study beneath the moon’s most unforgiving phase meet their grizzly end one way or another. Blood magic is fuelled only by the life force of the wielder and must remain in perfect balance throughout the entirety of the spell. A moment of self-doubt, a wave of untimely confidence, or a fluctuation of any kind will see that balance slip, and the blood moon will claim the life force of the wielder as payment for such fragility. Dreigon’s abilities come from the years of unwavering dedication that he has shown, but the banescale understands that he cannot walk the fickle line between life and death forever. His time will come, as it has for all the ones who have walked this path before him, and, with one simple mistake, Dreigon’s footsteps will be all that’s left for another to follow.

_____
» Appearance

Dreigon is lithe and muscular, standing over most dragons due to walking only on his hindlegs. His eyes are red, tinged with a hint of silver that gives them a reflective quality in low light, and he's adorned in the regal attire to match his standing within the clan. Seems to have a perpetual frown on his face, as if constantly engaged in a battle of wills.

» Influence

The only dragon within the clan to wield blood magic, most do not wish to admit it, but Dreigon frightens them. Many do not fully understand blood magic, and those who do are aware of just how devastating it could possibly be if Dreigon decided to turn their very own blood against them. Luckily for them, Dreigon has no ill intentions.

» Personality

To those who get to know him, Dreigon is a kind, if somewhat strained, soul. He's entirely dedicated to his studies and the advancements of his fellow students. For a dragon who appears so distant and cold, Dreigon is quick to notice a struggling student, and is even quicker to offer them the same love and guidance Zeria once offered him.
