Energy Cultist

Rot meant to stop Claude before it went too far. They met before they both joined a cult, living in neighboring clans near the Tempest Spire. They were little more than acquaintances at the time, but after both joining the cult as Chosen dragons, the dragons who would be physically altered to receive ultimate power, Rot became much closer to Claude. Something about familiarity, and all that. They both strongly believed in the cult and its intentions, so after several years living closely, as brothers and friends, Rot noticed when things changed for Claude. One day, the imperial was walking around with sparkles and hope in his eyes, the next he bowed his head and didn't meet the eyes of any dragon he passed. The others didn't noticed, chalking it up to nerves as they drew closer to the Final Event.

But Rot did notice, knew it wasn't just nerves but something deeper, more malicious. It was doubt. Doubt in their purpose, doubt in the beliefs of the group. Before that time, Claude had believed just as much as the rest of them, and Rot thought he would be able to pull Claude back onto the right path before the time of the Event arrived. He sorely underestimated the time, though, and rather than draw Claude back into their beliefs, he watched as Claude slipped through the cracks and poured acid on everything they had been working towards for years.

The Final Event was a disaster, the massive storm summoned over the Tempest Spire that was supposed to imbue them all with ultimate power spiraled out of control and wreaked destruction, power thrown completely off balance and striking out violently at all those gathered. Several of the Chosen were lucky enough to survive, but many weren't. Rot was struck with a smaller amount of power, not enough to kill him or even knock him out. He was witness to Claude's strike, a much more devastating strike that should, in all fairness, have killed the imperial. But for some reason, even though he was the source of their failure, Claude survived and with even greater power than they had thought possible.

Rot took Claude away from that place before they could gather their wits about them and turn on him. He has now taken it upon himself to protect Claude, who is still reeling with his new-found powers. Even though Claude stopped believing, Rot considers what happened to him proof that the cult had not been far off in their beliefs. He brought Claude here because he knew they would be safe from the other cultists who might seek revenge. Once part of this clan, revenge has to be all-out war before it can break through their defenses. And even still, this lair is more likely to win than not.
