Esmeralda joins Sven and Onyx in the labor of digging holes to find treasure. Like Sven, she is able to work constantly, which makes her more of a night shift dragon. Esmeralda has strong vision and tends to be the best at finding treasure, while Sven is the best at finding supplies. Unfortunately, due to her obsession with money and treasure, Sven often has to make sure Esmeralda isn't smuggling away valuables to keep for herself. Not all Snappers are walking storytellers, and Esmeralda is no exception. She is a creature of greed that craves treasure, and is a compulsive hoarder of various valuable objects she discovers while digging.

Esmeralda was not always obsessed with valuables and gold. She was once a young Snapper who belonged to a wealthy family. Esmeralda had a love of life, but she was always a woman who enjoyed material values. Esmeralda would often borrow treasure from her parents and go out and spend on frivolous things- fun outfits, adventures, and other luxuries. She always believed she had her wealth to fall back on in case things grew troublesome. Esmeralda managed to squander most of the money given to her within the week. In contrast, her younger sister was more careful, and kept a good portion of her money saved up.

As her parents grew older, they became more uneasy with Esmeralda's constant spending. But the day of reckoning came when her aging parents decided that Esmeralda would NOT be the heir to their fortune, despite being their oldest child. Instead, her sister would inherit the valuables. Esmeralda was thunderstruck. It had been promised to her! They hadn't even warned her about her spending habits! It wasn't fair! In a huff, Esmeralda decided to leave her family and venture elsewhere.

Life without a constant flow of wealth was difficult, and Esmeralda was soon changed by her life on the road. She became bitter and miserly, constantly counting every bit of treasure she found. Her problem was that she had no lair to call her own, and due to her lifestyle on the road, she was often in competition for finding coins and gems. She decided to move to the Southern Icefield, a place only the hardiest of dragons could call home.

She came to regret the decision. A Nature dragon who was used to bountiful fauna and warm climates was not well suited in this land of ice. Esmeralda set up camp in a frozen cave by the sea. She was one day caught snooping for gold in the territory of the Azeryx Clan. Sven and Conda offered to take her in. Esmeralda saw her chance- a chance to join a Clan and have a life again. But she was determined. Determined to gather up a hoard big enough to DWARF whatever her sister would receive from their parents. Esmeralda agreed to join the Clan, but she wasn't done. There are rumors among the Clan that while Esmeralda contributes to their hoard, she has her own secret stash hidden somewhere that no one knows. Esmeralda has been questioned, but has denied such a thing exists. But it's out there somewhere. And it grows in wealth every passing day.

Esmeralda can be charming and friendly, but she is notably self absorbed and puts herself first. While she donates many of her findings to Lumiyo, it is noted that she takes a bit more than her fair share of items for herself. She maintains a friendly relationship with Galaxy, but is manipulative and uses him to sell her found items to make a profit. She once tried to charm Magnus into letting her take gold from the treasury, but Magnus did not give in. She never tried since. While her loyalty can be questioned, Sven has expressed his belief in her- although he has warned Hallow that she must be kept happy to stay within the Clan. And unfortunately, after all she's seen, it would be unfortunate to lose her. Looks like Esmeralda is staying for a long time.

Esmeralda did not partake in the Bringer War, but found plenty of things to sell afterwards.

Sven and Angel both like Esmeralda, but Aegis and Melody disagree with them heavily. Esmeralda tends to be a bit snobbish, but still kind to most. She doesn't care for Vivid or Diamond.
