The digging division is dominated by sturdy, hardy dragons- Sven and his fellow Snappers excel at diving in and getting work done, and Irene is a huge helping hand when it comes to dredging up treasure from beneath the ground. But the oddball of the group is Umbra. Smaller than the other dragons, what Umbra lacks in strength, he makes up for with speed and clever eyes- eyes that are able to spy any sort of trinket or treasure down below.

Umbra operates on a similar scale as Ink- sometimes, it takes a smaller dragon to get the job done, and unlike the Veilspun, Umbra relishes in this duty. When the others are busy tunneling through the earth and snow, Umbra moves through these massive holes and keeps an eye for anything missed and any new caverns uncovered. Due to his sharp vision and small body, he can easily worm his way through most passages. This allows Umbra to find and access loot that no other digger can manage. But on the other side of this, this does mean that Umbra gets first dibs on anything he wants. While the Nocturne understands the needs of his Clan, he is a bit of a hoarder and tends to squirrel away a number of objects- something that Onyx gets on his case about. Esmeralda is often infuriated by him, but this is more due to her own greed than her disapproving of Umbra's style of work.

Umbra was an egg found by the Scavenging team during the Night of the Nocturne by fellow Nocturne October. As a result, he almost views October has his "mother", but weirdly enough, he came to view Wraith as almost a father-like figure, much to the dismay of many of Clanmates. As a result, he tends to have both an interest in the macabre and the eccentric, leading to one strange dragon joining the Clan. Still, Umbra tends to be a bit more subtle than either of his "parents"- while he enjoys using bones as accessories, he doesn't seem to relish corpses the way October does. And while he enjoys beholding dark objects and coming up with fun stories about them, he doesn't really believe them, unlike Wraith. It is this personality that led him away from Scavenging and more into Digging. In addition, his relation to October makes him almost like a nephew to Hallow- something that Reaper clearly enjoys, happy to have something close to "a brother".

Umbra is also one of the artists of the Clan, and has a tendency to play music. While his singing and lyrics can often come across as "creepy or weird", most dragons admit that his music can be nice and liven up the lair. He sometimes collaborates with other dragons, such as Quartz's storytelling or Aurora's poetry and songs.

Umbra tends to get along with most dragons- usually it's the other dragons who don't get along with HIM. He enjoys his fellow diggers (minus Esmeralda), and has a particular fondness for Irene. He likes to trade jokes with Conda and October, and can often be seen flouncing around the warriors during meal times, gathering their stories. He has a crush on Aurora, though the trickster seems to be rather quiet and serious about this. He and Reaper have a brotherly bond. He gets on Esmeralda and Ravage's nerves, and tends to unsettle Gideon with his music.
