"What is elemental magic?"

The answers would differ slightly depending on which dragon she asked, but in the end, they could all be traced back to one single definition;

Elemental magic was the energy that seeped through the lands of Sornieth. It affected its inhabitants. It stuck to the bodies of dragons while they were still in the egg, warping them, changing them.

And when they would hatch, they would be able to tap into the element of their deity. The color of their eyes would signal their eternal bond to that deity.

"What does it feel like, to be bonded to a deity?"

This question of hers was almost always met with confusion. After all, it was something that each and every dragon felt, deep in their soul. Even a tiny hatchling such as her.

But some of them answered her anyway.

They told her of the pure elemental magic blazing in their hearts, simple to see and feel. They told her it was what made them dragons.

She always wondered why they spoke of it so proudly.

She was told it would be as simple as breathing. That she would feel the presence of the Tidelord as soon as she took a moment to concentrate. So, she did.

And she felt nothing.

She was not connected to any deity, but she could see the glowing threads of magic flowing through her and everything else. She could use them as she pleased. She was free.

The bond was what made their souls dragon souls, according to them. But her soul was like liquid, just like the element she was supposed to be born into.

And she could decide what shape she wanted it to be.

THE HERMIT

The second daughter was quiet, introspective. She burned with curiousity, craving a glimpse of the world for herself. She loved her family and sister dearly but as every day passed the longing to see the rest of the world slowly grew, overshadowing everything else. It was out there that she would discover the true extent of what her lineage was capable of, she just knew it. One day she admitted this to her parents and with tearful goodbyes and parting gifts she was off to see what she could discover about Sornieth and herself.
