tumblr_nti067xMTN1repldoo7_400.png Description:
Resigned to their quarters, Tlaloc carefully hangs up their blade and locks the weapon-case door they've closed over it. Their armor hangs in a similar fashion, relegated to its own protective case until morning. For the first time since donning it this morning, Tlaloc is able to stretch, twisting their neck and pulling their shoulders this way and that. Scars formerly hidden by their warrior's garb are fully visible now, and, as they catch a glimpse in the mirror of these marks on their flesh, Tlaloc runs a claw along the newest ones. Little more than something between a sigh and a chuckle escapes them, but that reaction itself seems to dissuade them from investigating the scars any further. They walk over (with the sort of unwavering, quiet pride they always walk with) to their bed, and curl up. Still fairly close to the floor, they're able to pull a short table near. From its drawer they pull out a charcoal pencil and paper, and get to writing.

To my employer,
As a trusted head of guard, I sincerely hope you put my concerns and request above your own reservations. If you fail or refuse to acknowledge my request, you can consider yourself short one head. Whether that head leaves from my own position or your own neck will be decided by your next actions.

Tlaloc keeps writing, requesting to manage the schedules of the guards under their orders. Unsatisfactory shift lengths and unequal times sent on patrol have been brought to Tlaloc's attention far more times than they can remember- metaphorically speaking. In reality, there's an unanswered collection of physical complaints from guards which Tlaloc fully intends on bringing up.

Finishing up, Tlaloc sort of quietly questions why these complaints matter so much to them. It's not as if guards' performances have dwindled as a result, it's just... their happiness. They read their letter back over, but barely hold on to anything they've written. They're just back to thinking of when they took commands from another warrior, when they were praised not for their punctuality or commitment to their employer, but for their aggression and commitment to their fellow warriors; things that made them feel proud. Their pencil spins between their claws as they absent-mindedly fidget with it, almost forgetting all about the letter, caught in their reminiscing. They'll have someone deliver the letter sometime tonight, so they've got time to think. Maybe they'll even take time to look back over some of those older scars instead.

Quote:
this Imperial serves as a respected head of guard. But there's so much to look back on when the guards of the present seem so familiar...
