"I keep my family safe in my own way."

Kessal Kritikos is a name not well-known outside the Kritikos Paladin Academy - and nor should it be, for they take great care to protect their privacy. The young cleric is one of the very few members of the Kritikos family who has not become a paladin, but their calling as a cleric of the Forge Domain is better-suited to them than any Oath would have been, as far as they are concerned.

For Kessal has little interest in battle, or in honor, or in vigilance. They would rather send their loved ones out with armor they’ve stress-tested and weapons steeped in magic than take up a weapon themself and hack at a foe. Indeed, they would rather have no say at all in the academy were it not for the Seraphim Order - a collective formed from all the Kritikos children, created specifically to ensure they would never repeat the mistakes of their parents, aunts, uncles, or grandparents.

Other, older members of the Kritikos family have had their fun at ruining their own lives. This generation of young holy warriors is determined to avoid such a fate; they temper their loyalty to their Oaths with discussion and debate, ensuring that none of them run off to pursue some other interest without good reason. This is more than enough for Kessal, who would rather forge than waggle their tongue without good reason.

The cleric’s days are spent most often forging weapons and arms for their family and for the young paladins-in-training that attend the academy. On occasion, they will teach students how to work with metal, even if only to repair it or keep it in good condition. Though the rest of the Seraphim Order insists these sessions are good for them, Kessal would rather they didn’t have to deal with an overeager, anticipatory group of dragons who are practically vibrating with the desire to do a good job and please one of the Kritikos children.

In truth, Kessal’s dream is to be left all alone in their forge, where they need not speak to anyone and no one need speak to them. Even companionable silence is preferable to other dragons’ incessant need to fill silence with sound; then, at least, they would be able to focus on the hiss of extinguished metal or the clang of their hammer on steel.

But, of course, their family is too large to leave them behind. And there is a piece of the cleric that knows that perhaps it is good for them to be pulled from their self-imposed solitude now and then; perhaps they do need to keep the company of others. After all, it was Raum who isolated herself from her family.

It was Raum who fell to corruption.

Kessal does not wish to be anything like Raum.
