A B O U T
Shoal is the ship’s sailmaker and surgeon, able to sew up injuries just as skillfully as the huge canvas fabric. They are slow and methodical with every task, unlike most spiral dragons, a breed known for tirelessness and hyperactivity. Instead, Shoal moves with a deft precision, almost as if they can’t afford to waste any energy.

Their voice is scarcely louder than a whisper, when they speak at all. However, their crew is more than happy to communicate with them in other ways. Ekhi in particular has developed a form of sign language with them, since Shoal can’t speak loudly and Ekhi can’t hear clearly.

Many strangers find the quiet, unemotive spiral to be quite unnerving and avoid their eye. If this bothers Shoal, they don’t let it show. Although, most of their expressions are almost unreadable to those outside their crew.

H I S T O R Y
When Shoal was a hatchling, they developed a fairly severe bout of pneumonia that left their lungs heavily scarred. They have difficulty breathing when they overexert themself, though they have learned to recognize their limits over the years to avoid the fits of wheezing.

Their particular manifestation of Wind magic is heavily tied to their breath, weakening enough that their remaining eye has taken on a rather dim green hue. When travelling outside of the Windswept Plateau, they wear bird skulls and feathers -- some of the favored treasures of Wind flight dragons -- as talismans to help strengthen their connection with their magic.

No dragon knows what happened to Shoal’s eye, and over the years it has become quite the mystery. The true story isn’t all that interesting in Shoal’s mind; when they were a child, the winds changed at just the wrong time and they were struck in the face with a loose kite. But they never got around to telling the story, and now they feel it has been built up to mythical proportions.

Besides, they find the yarns that Morgan spins about them to strangers rather amusing. Not that they would admit it, but occasionally their mouth twitches into a smile when they are painted as the daring spy rather than a simple sailmaker.
