"Mysterious and Quiet. Her dark cloak under a gentle moonlight and her black feathered wings flowered with bright orange marigolds. She is surrounded by her fallen relatives. She glanced down on her pearl, focusing on it. Is she doubting on her spirits or Is she needs to wait for something?"
At the sound of the egg cracking amongst the fiery embers of the nest, Etrix cocked his head in alert, already excited to see his children. The first was a son, gleaming with his own markings. Then the second one hatched. His eyes grew wide at the sight of what he thought bones displayed out from the child's wings... that until his consort, Erellace gently nudged her out from the remains of her egg. The child was as beautiful as her mother, purring around another gleaming pearl whose surface shone as bright as the moon that looked over them that night. He watched his consort gather their two children to her bosom, and smile at him, all their pearls emitting a soft ghostly silver light.

The moon was waning that night, as Hel slowly poked her nose out of the nest, casting a quick glance at her family, her brother next to his mother, her father quietly and blessedly asleep by the plume of smoke that snaked out of his nostrils. Holding her pearl gently to her chest, she eased out, and walked towards a small grove of the clan they were staying in. A shiver thrummed through her body as she neared the grove, where the night cast longer shadows, and between them sat an elderly Imperial lying around one of the trunks, whose head rose as Hel neared. It felt like an eternity had passed before Hel plucked up the courage to call out to the other dragon ... who shimmered ethereal, Hel stepping back in surprise as she could see through her scarred body. A ghost?
"You can see me already, can't you? That's good. Very good..." The Imperial folded her pellucid claws in front of her. Hel waited a while before she felt it was alright to sit beside her. "Do you know who I am?" The Imperial only received a shake from the young pearlcatcher. "I am your father's sister, Aserva. Your aunt, my dear ..."

"You will have to be careful child,
more even than your brother.
They are coming."

Years later, Hel was all grown up. Her magical abilities had its potential. She had to explore its potential. This was where she decided to leave her birth clan. She gathered all of her belongings, necessities and her pearl before she bid goodbye to her loving family. Before Hel could leave, her mother, Erellace, stopped her for a moment. Erellace had something in her hand. She revealed Hel, a citrine necklace. A magical one as it emitted an orange glow. She told Hel, "This necklace will protect you and your journey from any evil spirits. I hope that every time you wear this., you will remember us. "

Hel smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Mother. I appreciate it." She took the citrine necklace and wore it around her neck. She tightly hugged her mother and kissed her by the cheek before she waved her a goodbye. Her mother along with her family waved back.

Out of the family's sight, Aserva's spirit smiled at the last moment. After Hel's family left. She quickly teleported to Hel's place, a port. She saw Hel with her pearl going to a passenger ship, larger than imperials, along two crew members carried her belongings to the cargo area. Hel went to the deck to see the clouds flying and the ocean waves crashing. Aserva whispered behind her, "Be safe, dear Helena." before she faded away from sight. Hel looked behind her, thinking it was someone. She smiled like an idiot before she was back to see the sky's beauty. The rest of the day was uneventful. At the night, she wrote down her thoughts on her small black leather journal's pages. She sealed it with an incantation before she drifted to sleep.

Days had passed on the the ship until one night. Instead of sleeping, Hel got out of her room and got up to the deck. She turned herself invisible and mute all of the sounds she might make as not to disturb the sleeping crew members upstairs. She leaned against the rims of the ship and looked up to the night sky. The stars twinkled and the full moon shone down the ship. She looked at them in awe. She sometimes drew the constellations with her finger. Then a cry of distress distracted her.

She ran over to the source. Her feet rumbled against the wooden floors. What she found is a fight. A skydancer was trying to protect a nocturne hatchling, clutching her on his arms against another dragon, grinning sharp teeth and clad with bones from children and blood. The skydancer had fresh scars and tears of despair from the fight. The nocturne was crying and covering her eyes. They haven't seen Hel yet but the other dragon looked at her with distaste as if they recognize a Witchborne. Hel looked around their adorned bones. She sensed something is off on this dragon. "A Child-Eater...", she thought. Her hand clutched a blue fire ball and shot it at the Child-Eater. They dodged it quickly. The pearlcatcher signaled the pair to run away. The skydancer flew off with the nocturne still on his hands. Hel spent the rest of the night fighting off the Child-Eater. Once she took them down, she called some of the crew to carry them in the ship jail. This was Hel's first encounter with a Child-Eater.

The next day, things went on as usual for Hel with her regular dose of gazing up to the sky on the deck. Freshly dried scars on some parts of her body. She didn't care. She heard a voice calling her and she turned around to see the same skydancer she encountered before. He had scales of the night sky of yesterday, shiny black wings and ghostly pale skeleton markings. He went near the pearlcatcher and hugged her tightly. He repeated a thousand 'thank yous' and Hel rubbed his back. The skydancer pulled back and he realized. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable.", he said profusely apologetic. "Anyway, what is your name, kind miss?"

"It's fine, sir and my name is Hel. What about your?", Hel calmly said to the skydancer.

"Uu-uh, Name's Opeth. It's nice to meet you and thank you for protecting me and the child! Your magic is amazing", he replied awkwardly. He scratched the back of his neck.

"Opeth. It's a nice name and thank you for your compliment. By the way, isn't she your child?", Hel pointed to small nocturne jumping excitingly at her mother, an imperial with exciting bright markings against her dark body.

"No, Hel. Actually, she is the adopted child of a mage. She was on the deck when suddenly there was an ambush from a witch trying to eat her. I was on the deck that night so I tried to protect her with my powers with no avail. I felt sick to the stomach when they talked about eating hatchlings."

"I'm happy that you saved the hatchling. I felt bad for you, Opeth.", her finger pointed near his scars. "I can say the same about Ch-witches that eat children. It's immoral thing to do."

"I guess we are both in the same page. Anyway, what will you do after the ship lands on Starfall Isles?"

"I'll study magic here and learn how to control it. You?", Hel said.

"The same thing.", Opeth answered.

"So you are going to the same university as I am? We'll go together if you are.", she asked Opeth.

Opeth nodded. The bell rang as the ship stopped at the port. Opeth and Hel followed a crowd of dragons going down to the port. The crew members brought out their belongings. Their belongings were now out, exposed to the sunlight and fresh breeze. Hel and Opeth gathered them respectively and they went on to travel together to the university.

The giggles of Aserva can be heard from the air. This was the first time Hel and Opeth met. Their friendship grew on their years of studying. They grew closer and closer until they confessed their feelings to each other. They became lovers, even before Hel found Citrine Kingdom.

There was a legend about a mysterious kingdom that fell down because of darkness. Flesh of citizens, innocent, guilty or corrupted had been eaten away by increasingly spreading darkness. It was told to young future rulers by elders as a warning for corruption. Hel wasn't a heir to a place but she had numerous nightmares about this mysterious kingdom. In those nightmares, she was in a completely different body than her own. She was bigger than usual. Her arms were padded with light scales. She had something adorned on her head. A crown.

She had to do something about it before it consumes her. She waited for the next full moon.

Then Seed Moon arrived. The lovely Luna's glow was orange instead of the usual milky glow. Hel smiled at the moon as she saw that the orange glow means the moon will provide more power to her spell. She read out an sleep protection spell on her along with calming herbs under her bed. She lie down straight and relaxed. Her ghostly markings gave the same lunar glow that the moon had at that time. Then, she closed her eyes. Black smoke and blue embers surrounded her for protection...

She opened her eyes to see the view of the kingdom from the castle's balcony.

By the Harlequin Forest alone with a blue fire in front of her, Hel reflected on the fall of her father's kingdom. The fire's shadows depicted families consumed by the plague. Even shown her grandmother dying in her deathbed before the eyes of a young imperial with the markings of her father. This imperial might not look like her father now but she knows that this is her father before everything falls down. She heard the cries of a young dragon from the pain and grief that the plague gives. Hel's tears dropped but her courageous heart determined her to not let her kingdom fall down again. Hel wiped them away with her gold clad claws.

The scarred ghost of Aserva, her aunt, floated behind her, watching Hel's fire depicting her home being torn to pieces by an unknown disease. She patted the back of her niece and gently said.

"Young child, don't reflect on the past again. It can hurt your kingdom if you just focus on the past."

Hel assured her, "I know I shouldn't do it, Auntie. But watching the past can help the present and build a better future."

Aserva replied, "But dear, you teared a bit every time it happens."

"I know, Auntie, but I got used to it. Don't worry about it."

In defeated tone, Aserva said, "Oh well. I guess I have no choice but to accept tha-" She was interrupted by the sounds of leaves shifting.

And then, it only grew louder and louder, to the point where this means a sign that something will not go well. The fire reduced to nothing as Hel pays attention to the sound. Aserva's spirit whispered "They are coming." before she faded out from the material world. Hel's stance lowered. Orange marigolds grew a giant patch underneath Hel's foot and the branches grew on her armored arms and armored legs. Her black feathered wings flowered with marigolds are lowered. She hold her pearl protectively. She was ready to attack whoever is in the bushes near her place with blue fireballs floating above her.

Another fireball like hers but shades lighter shot to her direction and Hel rolled her body away from it before it hit her, only hitting a tree. The tree quickly turned into ashes. She closed her eyes to let her spirits find the culprit in question. They picked a familiar smell, a smell of a longtime friend, soon to betray her. There she found imperial with her bright markings against her dark scales coming closer to her. This imperial has been her friend for years before she founded her kingdom, Citrine Kingdom. She trusted her to become one of her officers then this happened?! She opened her eyes back to reality and she saw her traitorous friend as she came closer and closer to her. Her friend is not only one though, she saw few dragons all covered in armor and weapons on their hands. They are all behind the imperial.

Hel never suspected that Panthea will betray her. She shouted, "What have I done to you, Panthea?! I thought we trust each other!"
