Squall didn’t know what to say, seeing his father like this… Of course, it had been years since he’d seen Stratus at all. If he’d really thought about it, Squall might have expected the tears. He might have expected the unreasonable happiness to see a son he didn’t really know. “Thank you for coming.” Stratus took a tentative step closer, and then closed the distance without a second thought. He wrapped his neck around Squall’s, and Squall could feel the Wind-lifted feathers of his crest brushing his own thick mane. “It’s good to see you.” “Good to see you, too,” Squall said, for lack of anything else to say. What was one to say? His mother was dead. Stratus’s mate. The chaos of the past few weeks since Squall got the news was a whirlwind. Should he stay in his happy home in Ice and ignore the pain of his family an ocean away? Or should he try his luck with a clan he only remembered through the eyes of a small Skydancer with barely a wingfeather to his name? Only time would tell. “What happened?” he asked. Stratus shook his head as he stepped back. Squall could tell the topic wasn’t one Stratus wanted to cover right now, but the curiosity alone was killing him. “When the Chase was scattered, she was lost in Plague territory. Murdered by cultists there, I think.” Squall frowned. He thought? “You don’t know?” Stratus looked off into the camp. “Tumork brought the news. I’m not sure I was listening to most of it, to be honest.” Squall nodded, supposed that made sense. Squall wouldn’t want to hear the gruesome details of his mate’s demise, either, if he had one. Looked like he was talking to Tumork. |
As soon as Squall received news that his mother had been killed, he knew he had a choice to make. He was happy in Ice territory, in the clan that his parents visited a very long time ago, following in his family’s footsteps from a great distance away. He held no ill-will toward them. He even admired the idea of them. But to live with them, travel with them as they lived their itinerant, mercenary lifestyle? It had never been for him. But Squall went home anyway. Squall didn’t know, but his father sounded desperate to see him. And he was right. Why shouldn’t Stratus be upset over the loss of a mate he’d known since his own hatchlinghood? What Squall did not expect was that his mother had been murdered. What Squall did not expect was that the only witness to her death would lie to him. Squall doesn’t know for sure - in fact, he thinks he’ll never know for sure. At least not until he can persuade Tumork to talk. Tell him the truth. Because all Squall knows for sure is that Tumork didn’t tell him the truth the first time. Until Squall learns what happened, he doesn’t suspect he’ll leave the Tempest Chase. Either that, or he’ll follow Tumork wherever he goes to learn the truth. In the meantime, he has made an assortment of friends and built a life for himself. His father and the rest of his family are pleased with his intentions to stay… though probably only because they don’t know why he’s staying. They have noted that his “friendship” with Tumork is a bit odd… perhaps because Tumork is a bit odd and Squall is decidedly not. But since he’s also become friends with the likes of JJ and Saint, they don’t say much about it. Perhaps the most notable thing about Squall is that he’s an Ice dragon. Even though this shows in his bushy feathers and thick wings, it also shows in his disposition. He looks up to his patron the Icewarden and strives to be like him. He doesn’t forget, and he doesn’t forgive. |

GRIEVER - guide
|
Griever has been a member of the Tempest Chase longer than Squall has been alive. Griever guided a young Squall in his first steps in the Chase after his return from adventuring in foreign lands, as he has done for many a young beast and dragon. As the years progressed and Squall became an important figure in the Chase’s aerial combatant tapestry, they became close colleagues and friends as they were often assigned to the same contracts together thanks to their equal capacity for fighting and flying. Even though Griever can more often be seen spending time with other non-dragon members, more and more one may observe Squall joining him for drinks with the manticores and fauns. |

━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Squall takes his surname, Crowwing, from his father. He also shares this name with his aunt, Derecho, and grandfather, Fayne.» In addition to his Skydancer family, his grandmother Lightning is a Guardian, as well as his aunt Cyclone.
» In memory of his mother, Squall preserved some of her scientific instruments in magical ice (represented by his Glitterfreeze Ice-trolabe) and uses it as a weapon.
» Even though Squall sometimes gets assigned as an escort for clients traveling from one territory to another, he would rather do almost anything else.
