Maybe -- almost certainly -- it was a mistake for a Fire dragon to venture into the Viridian Labyrinth alone. But Glyn wanted to see the ancestral home of his kind, and he felt confident in his ability to handle any trouble that arose. He was wrong. He never could have been prepared for what he found.

While exploring the Labyrinth, Glyn chose the wrong spot for a campsite -- something a guide probably could have told him, had he not been too foolish and headstrong to hire one. When he woke, it was with bark sprouting from his skin, plant matter painfully pushing its way out of his flesh. He'd slept in a well of corrupting nature magic, and it'd marked him, claimed him: he was its creature now, and soon would be forever, no matter how far he ran -- his flesh slowly replaced by wood until there was nothing left of him.

And that would have been his fate, had a fleeing Glyn not attracted the attention of the witch Leila, who sensed the nature magic around him and found her curiosity piqued. She offered Glyn her aid: her magic could contain his curse, prevent it from consuming him, maybe even reverse it. All she asked in return was a chance to study it. Of course Glyn accepted, eager and grateful for Leila's help.

As far as Glyn is concerned, Leila is his generous benefactor who has done no wrong. He has no idea that she's used his curse -- and his blood -- to produce afflicted hatchlings to study, new plant-dragons that she can examine. If he knew, Glyn would be horrified -- which is exactly why Leila takes pains to ensure that he never finds out.

-found out what Glyn was doing after they accidentally got involved with Novae Carinae and ended up joining the clan
-now he has trust issues, but the researchers with Glyn’s help were able to do a better job of controlling the worst of his symptoms, though they were unable to reverse them entirely; his relationship with Glyn is more than a little strained
-he doesn’t know he has a living daughter in Fernwood
-he how works as one of the clan’s ‘ambassadors’, posing as an ambassador from a Fire clan in the Wild Sanctum. He's still very anxious about his actual reason for being there and is honestly hoping he never has to do anything extremely vital or dangerous, but he's surprisingly politically savvy and the most influential dragon they've been able to get into Nature's government- he's a bit of a coward, but good with people and good at watching his back.
