Biography

Phidi
Adept Apprentice
Chaotic Good

Phidi believes she is very talented. (Some dragons even agree with her.) But not regularly talented. No, Phidi knows she is the most talented dragon in Sornieth! (No dragons agree with that.)

Regardless of what other dragons think, Phidi spends every day honing her numerous skills with abandon. At first, she read every book she could get her claws on and tried practising whatever the book was about by herself. Multiple books at once, whenever possible. That quickly caused an incident where she mixed up a book of runes and a cookbook, and began searing explosive runes onto steaks. Then she got a chemistry text mixed up with one on astronomy, and melted her telescope's lenses with hydrochloric acid when she tried to clean it. She even lost her arms to a roc after reading a book on falconry and failing to understand that not all birds are the same. But none of those things discouraged her. It wasn't until Phidi figured out that there was no way she was learning coatl from a book that she considered getting somebody to teach her things.

But somebody of her talents is too good to be a mere student. Instead of looking for teachers, Phidi looked for dragons who would take her on as an apprentice (while not-so-subtly hinting that she'd actually be more helpful to them than they would be to her.) Amazingly, there were a number of members of Clan _______ willing to take her up on that offer.

Due to being very over-worked, Cress was glad for the help of anyone able to do the smallest bit of enchanting, while Vector was less convinced but willing to attempt to teach Phidi blacksmithing. Kushiel was too nice to refuse somebody who seemed so enthusiastic about tailoring, and Belanoir probably only agreed to train her in potion brewing because by this point she thought it was funny. Phidi has proven to be a competent apprentice at all these things, at the cost of working very hard for a few days before disappearing to practice other things for the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, Phidi hasn't gotten any better at multitasking. Instead of creating potions that can be applied to clothing and armour to enchant it, she develops methods of reducing armour into potions that nobody will ever be willing to drink. She did manage to create a potion that causes you to be wearing clothes after you drink it, but an enchantment that compels its victim to get dressed impressed no one. And don't mention the cursed armour she forged that gives its wearer a potion addiction.

She also convinced Delyth to teach her the coatl language in return for cataloguing Delyth's entire archaeological collection. The lessons are going significantly better than the cataloguing. The artefacts are still a disorganized mess, but now you can tell how fast Phidi is flying by listening to the pitch of her humming.

Obviously, a dragon of Phidi's talents is very busy. Too busy for the rest of the clan, really. Phidi's so focused on her millions of personal pursuits that she has no idea what's going on in the clan around her. Well, that's about the only explanation for how Rhys managed to start a garden on top of Phidi's den without her noticing. And for how she nearly had all of her vital fluids drained by his tulips, also without her noticing. It was a supremely informative book, okay? Phidi can count herself lucky Rhys came back in time to cut her free from the suddenly very red flowers.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, there is one interest that Phidi does consistently return to. Space. But not the simple act of stargazing that might be enough to entertain an ordinary arcane dragon. No, Phidi has much grander interests than that. She wants to solve the great question of how to survive up in the void between stars. There's no magic up there, after all. Or air, but that's such a simple problem that it's not worth her time. The lack of magic is the issue. Nobody wants to go to space only to slowly die as the magic fades from their body. And who knows if other planets have magic? If dragonkind wants to be able to survive on a new world, someone will have to discover how to seed other planets with magic. A challenge for the ages! And Phidi has some ideas already. If someone made copies of the pillar fragments, those would not only be able to support magic on a theoretical spaceship, but could later be used to bring magic to a new world. All Phidi has to do is get her claws on a small piece of one so that she can learn how they work.

Anyone up for a heist? Phidi is very talented at heists.
