Biography

Tolmac
Duellist for Hire
Lawful Good

PkKAmaj.png
Tolmac is a professional duellist, fighting battles for rich dragons that have more money than skills. If you have the coin, Tolmac will fight any duel, whether its the more traditional fight to the death, a battle of wits, a cook-off, a race, a rap battle...

Be warned: the moment he ends up fighting more than one opponent at once all deals are void. He leaving, and he's taking your money with him. He'll fight multiple people, but only one at a time. And each sequential duel is more expensive than the last.

He can often be found in rooms he has no business being in, looking for interesting things to "borrow". As you may expect, he'll challenge anyone questioning his rights to that object to a duel. Throwing stuff at him until he yields is recommended. (He wouldn't hurt other clan members.)

Despite the fact that he's quite talented, Tolmac doesn't have a perfect score in duelling. (Obviously, he hasn't lost any of the ones that involved combat. As far as we can tell, he isn't undead. Though he sometimes smells like one...) This might be because he has a bad habit of showboating if he seems to be greatly favoured to win. After a loss, he'll generally be found in Saburo's bar, meekly trying to explain that he just wanted to give his opponent a fighting chance.

Amazingly, he somehow manages to hate water more than the average ridgeback. He refuses to take baths, and can be found cowering under even the smallest overhang if he's caught out in the rain.

This makes living on an island rather awkward, as he has to cross some ocean whenever he goes out searching for those who may need his services. Usually, he'll go looking down south in the Icefields. The duels are of higher quality in the ice flight — actual combat, instead of arcane fare of either swatting a fae like a bug or getting blown up in seconds by a spell. They're also somewhat more illegal, but that's okay, for Tolmac doesn't fear the gaolers. And anyways, he's great at picking locks. Ridgeback spines make a perfect lockpick. As do their claws. And noses.

Tolmac met Kepriel before either of them joined this clan, and the two have been friends ever since she helped him win a duel. She's taught him some basic dance skills, and while a ridgeback attempting to perform fae dancing is far more comical than elegant, the fact that he can even pull those moves off has been enough to win Tolmac a few dance-offs. In return, Kepriel might be the only dragon who Tolmac will fight a duel for for free.

If asked, Tolmac will claim the feather in his hat came from a phoenix. Surprisingly enough, that's actually true. Even more surprisingly, it was a gift from said phoenix. Sacrificing his own honour in the process, Tolmac had declined a duel to see who could cook the best phoenix omelette. Grateful to him for protecting its children, the phoenix healed every scar Tolmac had picked up over the course of his life, and offered a shed feather as a memento. Tolmac doesn't remember much more than that, his recollections of the events surprisingly foggy. He suspects it was the work of the phoenix, doing what it could to prevent any dragons from finding their way back to its nest.

There's a rumour that a phoenix feather can bring a dragon back from death. Tolmac might know the truth behind it, but he's not telling.
