Biography

Keris
Steampunk Samurai
Lawful Neutral

Bound to a strict code, Keris fights with utmost honour on the battlefield. A whirling dervish of blades and lightning, all who stand in her way are either cut to shreds or experience the sting of a thousand paper cuts, depending on size.

Stoic and disciplined, Keris has few friends, but prefers it that way. She trains in solitude, looking to better herself in the art of swordplay. While you might not think a tiny swordmaster would be effective, her ability to strike from nowhere like a flash of lightning and then bolt towards her next target is shockingly effective.

{The above text looks rather charred. Apparently Keris doesn't like puns.}

She completely lacks a sense of humour. This has resulted in Keris thinking that a couple of sarcastic comments were actually genuine requests for a blade through the gut. Unfortunately, Atuin's never learned his lesson. Mostly because he's rather hard to hit.

Knows some really cool sword moves that involve charging the blade with electricity. Though she's more likely to use the electrified blade for intimidation than she is to actually stab someone with it. Actual violence is reserved for machines. Nothing shuts down an out of control construct like shorting it out and cutting it apart at the same time. The sword does wonders for bypassing locks as well. The only explanation Keris has is that her electricity creates magnetic fields that move the tumblers and pull the bolt out of place. It also simply destroys electronic and magical locks. By making them explode.

Surprisingly, she gets along pretty well with Primacy. Apparently, she finds the bumbling noble's sincere eagerness rather charming. Keris also respects his devotion to (try to) help those in need, regardless of the cost to himself. It's a similar ideal to the code of honour she's lived her life by. So she sometimes asks the skydancer to train with her, and perhaps with enough work, Primacy will actually develop some skill. This is the Arcane flight after all, so stranger things have happened.

Her pouch is full of cogs and springs meant for battlefield repairs to her equipment. While Keris never had much potential in mechanics, she does know how to get something working for at least a little bit. For serious repairs, someone like Alder will need to do the important work. Especially since Keris has the habit of throwing those spare parts as an emergency weapon.

Keris abandoned her home clan in frustration after they refused to take her path in life seriously. After all, what kind of lightning dragon uses a sword nowadays? Keris, that's who. She trained in secret under the tutelage of a wizened old pearlcatcher, honing both her mind and body. Then, using both technology and cold steel in tandem, she returned to her home flight to prove her worth. (It didn't go well.)

But while Keris might embrace most technology, she scorns the weaponry that her native flight develops. Instead, she trusts in her own skill and the strength of her blade's steel. Her sword would trust in her too, if it had feelings or something else equally strange. (All rumours that her sword contains a rogue AI are patently false. Where would you even get one of those? Keris would never consider liberating stealing one.)

In addition to her dislike of her flight's weaponry, she's also not fond of the one who oversees its creation: the Stormcatcher himself. Keris knows this technically makes her a heretic, but considering she once broke into a weapons factory and slashed the machinery to bits, she probably doesn't care. In Keris' mind, battles are fought blade and claw, not hiding behind a wall of cannon and robotic golems. Not just due to her warrior's sense of honour. Keris also believes strongly that people of all types deserve to be free, and that mass-produced weapons of war are only a tool of oppression.

Her belief in her ideals is so strong that before joining this clan she lead a small group of dragons dedicated to preventing the spread of advanced weaponry. In secret, they worked to destroy any lightning flight weapon parts that made it out of the factories and into the rest of Sornieth. Such missions were carried out at great danger to their lives, but Keris believes the risks were worth it. The other flights have enough to worry about without constructs that shoot lasers and lightning becoming widespread.

Considering that she disappears to who-knows-where on occasion, Keris probably still leads her group of rebels. Living in Clan _______ might just be a way to give herself an identity that doesn't need to be constantly in hiding.
