Biography

”Please, can you forgive me?”
He herd the gun shot, but where was the pain? Wasn’t there supposed to be something? Perhaps he was already dead. But then he herd a gasp, one of shock and disbelief. He opened his eyes, tears instantly began to well.
Ben lay on the ground, gasping in agony, clutching his stomach. Pierre knelt down and touched his dad’s shoulder, his face like that of a confused child. Ben looked, his eyes bared an expression that could only be described as a hunted, wounded animal but he still tried to smile.
“No,” The boy whispered, “No, no, no, this should’ve been me!” He looked up at Romain, who’s forest eyes betrayed no emotion. “I’m sorry, I- I didn’t mean-“
“It w-was my choice,” Ben murmured weakly, his voice barely a whisper, “D-don’t worry,”
“Shh save your strength love,” Romain’s voice was icy and he shot a glance at Pierre, “Just stay with me,” He gently picked him up, though Ben still groaned in pain.
“I’m sorry,” He muttered, unsure what to do. He was a child still, he didn’t understand. He didn’t understand death, nor pain, nor grief, this couldn’t happen. This must be some nightmare.
“Don’t worry,” Romain’s words were like that of a block of ice, cut precisely and sharp, freezing to the touch.
“Can I help?”
“I think you’ve done enough,”

Pierre paced the floor of his uncle’s house, casting anxious glances at the bed where Ben lay. They had cleaned up the wound to the best of their abilities, and wrapped it with some cloth, but the doctor hadn’t arrived yet. It had become a race against time itself, every minute it seemed he grew weaker. Romain held his hand and kissed his forehead every now and then, murmuring tender things to him.
This could’ve been me, I could’ve been in his shoes. That thought terrified him most of all. He had caused this, if Ben died he would be responsible. Pierre didn’t quite know if he could live with that on his heart, even if Dad insisted that he chose to take his place. No matter how many times Ben told him to live a long, good life he didn’t know how.
“Hey,” William came up to him, the expression upon his face was unreadable, his mom, dad, sister, now perhaps his brother. Just the thought of Dad dying was enough to send chills deep in his heart. Three times over must be unbearable. How either managed that weight was unimaginable. Maybe Ben would be lifted of that today, perhaps that was a silver line to this black cloud.
William took his arm, “How are you feeling?”
“How is he?” Pierre stopped and looked up, hardly hearing what he said.
Will opened his mouth, then closed it, and paused to think. “He’s not doing too well,” He looked at him in the eye, “But I asked about you,”
“My dad is in pain because of me. Do you think I’m fine?” Pierre snapped harshly but his eyes flashed with immediate regret.
“I know it’s hard, seeing those you love like that, but you have to accept it isn’t your fault, Ben jumped in front because he loves you,” Will smiled, “And that’s an amazing thing,”
“When will the doctor be coming?” Pierre, though tears on his cheeks, had a half grin on his lips.
“Soon, he’ll be alright, I’m sure,” He looked back toward the bed.
“Do you think he’ll forgive me?” Pierre gazed somberly at Romain.
“He loves you too,” Will’s voice was firm, the kind that you know speaks the truth.
“Even after all this?”
”True love always stays, no matter what happens,”
