Can I tell you a story?
Heaven. That’s what they call this place. Heaven on earth. What with constant golden sunlight always filling it’s inhabitants with warmth or the vibrant birds calling out exotic songs, there’s just no place like it. One could turn around and always find some marvel of nature just behind a grand tree. Nobody has much recollection of how they arrived, the moments leading up to it are murky. They can describe their past in detail but at a certain point it is as though mist covers their memories. They don’t mind much. They’ve all had past wounds, despite the fact they’ve always taken the good road. There’s no reason to ever wish to go back when there is nothing but joy here. Nothing but happiness and sorrow is an ancient word. This is a paradise. And this paradise is prison.
Just outside of the Forest is an empty land of outcasts. When there’s trouble in paradise there has to be a place to dispose of it. Not much is to be said for this place is rather bare. The only noteworthy thing about it is it encircles the Forest in a near perfect ring. Just a scarce desert with the occasional camp and fire. But there’s a reason those in that haven don’t venture farther and don’t stir up unpleasantness. Some here have killed while some knew they couldn’t stay for long in paradise. In general they keep their distance, they don’t like to be bothered. Joy still finds its way but so does sadness. There’s no way out and no way back in. Paradise should be pure.
There is one more ring, this one wraps around the Outskirts. Some can’t take it anymore, the eternal loveliness or the eternal sandy dunes, while others just appear. It takes a great deal of trouble to find yourself here. The moon is always overhead and that chill in the air never goes away. Barren trees dot the fields covered in decaying leaves. Stones jut up from the ground and if one looks closely they can almost make out words upon them. The tenants here roam aimless. There’s no point anymore. They hoped to move on, but there’s no place further to go. Just the mist that surrounds the border, the impenetrable fog that goes on for miles. Nobody has ever seen the other side if such a thing exists. This is the final resting place for those trapped in paradise.
A cliff looms over them all, and a cave has been cut into its jagged stone. Beings not from this time watch from the overlooking ledge. Most aren’t interested in the affairs of those below them and spend more time within the systems of caves. Others can’t tear their eyes away. Some even go down to the Rings and have a chat with residents or at least something of that nature. They can’t explain why they are here nor can they tell how this was all created. They just know it is what it is. And they can’t change paradise if they tried.
