Cameo
Sand-sailing merchant

Cameo certainly lives up to the showmanship of her name, enjoying the flair that comes with being at the helm of Sornieth’s most profitable sand-ship. Rare as witnessing the usual vehicle is for the common spectator, Cameo’s cherished pet goes a step beyond; this particular ship is a monstrous billowing contraption of smoke, gears, and a five-dragon-pedaling crew.

Birthed from within the mechanical genius of her mind, Cameo certainly does not take her time reminding spectators who it was who built the thing, in thanks to a large megaphone built into the ship’s core - a physical manifestation of the audacious tundra’s conceit. If the noise of its approach to the Shifting Expanse’s trading ports was not enough to announce Cameo and company’s arrival, surely the sound of her squawking at below onlookers is. It is a commonly referenced joke amongst her crew that even if one were to sabotage the megaphone, Cameo’s lungs instead would certainly do its work. And besides, merchants love the schtick - they can tell tourists from port regulars based on whose jaws drop at the spectacle, letting them charge them exuberant prices. Even show pigs like Cameo have their place in the Stormcatcher’s economy.

That being said, Cameo is not all talk and peacock feathers. Sitting at the center of her self-inflicted pride is the knowledge that a ship is only as good as its crew, allowing the steel-legged workers a cut of profit unheard of amongst most other traders. Both captain and crew share a strong relationship, quick to protect one another’s necks during shipment raids and lightning storms alike. In fact, most of her crew members are the very same ones she started her trader voyages out with. Retention is quite high among her crew and is only cut by retirement or death. Most in their business would count themselves lucky to survive to the latter, but low mortality rates amongst her workers is something Cameo prides herself on.

Cameo’s major business lays in trade, with a side-serving of quest and adventure from her richer patrons. The Carrion Canyon is seen by most as a region devoid of life, but the bones of the creatures long passed that line its surfaces often fetch incredible prices from collectors and arcane practitioners alike for their beauty and magic potential. These bones often prove too heavy for a single ship to lift, but Cameo’s design has managed to wrest several bones from their once-final resting place during a single trip, a feat barely accomplished by even top-of-the-line commercial ships. Robbers come not for her wares, in fact, but for her ship itself - an accomplishment which fortunately has yet to be fulfilled. The blueprints for such technology could probably make the tundra a small fortune amongst the trader elite, but in typical Cameo fashion, as long as she dwells the deserts she wants to be wholly unique among her trading peers. Though this is not known by her employees, Cameo has it set up in her will that when - and should - she pass, the design’s sales will all be split evenly amongst any alive crew and their remaining family.
