Occupation: Antiques seller Location: Town on the outskirts of Desert Way Relationship status: Isolated and happily alone Favourite food: Burnt toast with honey Favourite drink: Black tea Collects: Botanical illustrations, china cups, old recipe cards. A strange, grandmotherly old nocturne and proprietor of an antiques store filled with weird and wonderful curios. The hatchlings giggle and whisper amongst themselves that she carries her soul around in a lantern. |

S T O R Y
In all mannerisms and appearance, Toffee makes herself out to be the clan’s perfectly gentle grandmother. She always smells of potpourri, she offers horrifically sticky homemade candies to hatchlings, and she even surrounds herself with products from times-gone-by.
First started from her own personal collection, Toffee’s antique shop is a popular location for those in search of curios. Her knowledge of each offering obviously comes from a place of personal experience. Ask about a single pewter cup, and one may get the older nocturne on the topic of smelting processes, and molding techniques. Whether fictional or real, each shop piece has a story that Toffee spins for listening ears; some sort of interesting acquisition, or thrilling origin. |
And then again…
Sometimes the nocturne’s body hangs about an odor of rotting meats, and the candies taste of gunpowder. A misplaced fact or detail about a product plagues her mind and tongue, only to be politely ignored or corrected by a well-meaning customer. If she complains of it, their words are meant to be soft, but often sharpen against her ears - “that’s what happens as you age!” they say, smiling softly. Nobody gets mad at the grandmother for taking a misstep.
How old is she, again? When did she open the shop? Was it not only a moon or three ago?
When the customers leave, they catch in the door, specters haunted by the in-and-out bell. The sound of their exit and entrance is louder than most in a similar business, and sometimes they are driven back into the store by the sound alone. Those that leave rarely come back, satisfied with their purchase - the mark of a good business dragon? She keeps odd hours. Always a customer or two. Never an empty house, nor mind, nor eye.
