Arcane Plenipotentiary

When Celeste goes into hibernation late in the fall, Rubyback finds it near impossible to maintain his work schedule; his psychic ties to his Hibernal Starbear leave him dozing off in the middle of meetings. He has discovered however, that he is perfectly able to perform his arcane research while sleeping; Celeste helps him maintain perfect clarity in his dream-state. It's a little rough on the rest of the clan who may have need of his services over the winter season...

There was no question when Rubyback volunteered to cover in the lab so Monachemy could participate in the Bachanaal Masquerade at Pan's Pub. While Lege worried that Rubyback's mana would unbalance the Ley Lines and Locusta had serious doubts about the coatl's attention to detail, they were all secretly overjoyed when Ntazake convinced their master chemist to attend the annual clan event. His workaholic tendencies put everyone on edge.

"Time for you t'be getting back out there, my friend," Rubyback insisted as he pushed his lifebrother out the door. "All will be well when you return. No, go! Leave your clipboard with me. Everything else will keep."

Unfortunately NTazake did not calculate the unpredictable nature of his own protoge's magic! An unfortunate intersection of Gwynneth's wild arcane energy and the ley lines beneath the laboratory resulted in an unprecedented detonation of mana.

None of the ongoing experiments appeared harmed by their exposure, but Olive's beloved pothos plant received an undisguiseable makeover and Rubyback felt obliged to engage in a little quick sleight of hand to replace the now-glowing purple plant with a more normal specimen. Gwynneth aptly adopted the evidence and removed it from the lab.

So far, Olive appears to be none the wiser.

Born to a very traditional clan, it was the upheld belief that hatchlings born with faded or white genes were destined to the service of the Arcanist. His parents, who were on the progressive side, didn't hold that belief; they even named him Rubyback to give focus to his wine-faceted wings. However, once his parents went to join the Arcanist themselves, Rubyback knew the clan would pressure him to follow. Fortunately his curiosity of the world gave him the courage to pack his bags and go.

Travelling in no particular direction and without a plan, his steps led him first to the Scarred Wasteland where he might have perished had he not encountered another lone Coatl named Monachemy. He was also fleeing from family traditions and prejudices, but headed in the opposite direction. Hounded by the diseased beastclans of the Abiding Boneyard, the pair turned south toward the distant bamboo-covered cliffs. There, lost in the tall, dense thickets of bamboo, they were able to take their first real rest.

They awoke to a growling and found themselves confronted by an irate Mirror dragon of the most astounding shade of magenta. On his back was perched a small, greyish Fae, her fierce demeanor belying her small size. Quickly coming fully awake, Rubyback realized they had the misfortune to have taken their rest right outside the cave entrance to the other dragons' lair (as evidenced by the Fae's tree-sap nest above the rock opening.)

Rubyback hurried to make their apologies and introductions (Monachemy was struck dumb with astonishment and utterly useless). This new couple, Goliath and Thagwynn respectively, were in the process of starting their own clan, newly blessed by the Windsinger. Would the two coatls care to join them and remain in the realm of the Windswept Plateau? Would they ever!
