Cruel and cold like winds on the sea
Will you ever return to me?
Hear my voice, sing with the tide
My love will never die
Over waves and deep in the blue
I will give up my heart for you
Ten long years, I’ll wait to go by
My love will never die

Come, my love be one with the sea
Rule with me for eternity
Drown all dreams so mercilessly
And leave their souls to me
Play the song you sang long ago
And wherever the storm may blow
You will find the key to my heart
We’ll never be apart
Wild and strong you can’t be contained
Never bound nor ever chained
Wounds you caused will never mend
And you will never end

Cruel and cold like winds on the sea
Will you ever return to me
Hear my voice sing with the tide
Our love will never die

Gunhilde was one of the many children born under Ragnar and Lorelei during the total eclipse of the Super Wolf Blood Moon, right in the middle of a joint celebration between two of Sornieth's well-known lineages. Right when she was born, her parents knew that she was destined for great things, evidenced by the mark of the blood crescent on her hand. One of the seers of the Memento Mori lineage told Ragnar and Lorelei that she would be as infamous as her parents, and that her name would be sealed in legend as one of the greatest pirates on the ocean seas.
Thus, high expectations were placed upon her from the moment she was born. She apprenticed under several of her family's ships, trained under her father, and was taught the ways of the Sirens under her mother. Slowly, she grew in wisdom and maturity until her teenage years, when she met Hati, a member of Clan Avnokodro, in the middle of a pirate raid on her Aunt Sif's ship. She hid underneath the ship, waiting for the right time to strike, and attacked the enemy, pulling a few of the pirates overboard and drowning them. When they were distracted enough, she nabbed the chest they stole from her clan, thanked Sif, and swam off. Out of curiosity, Hilde followed her and asked for her name. This first interaction made them fast friends, and they seemed to have a lot in common.
Hati was born on the same day as Hilde, and she, too, had the mark of the Blood Moon on her shoulder. She explained that the enemy pirates stole an important item that belonged to her clan, and that her clan's leaders reached out to Lady Sif, asking for aid. Apparently, her family and Hati's clan leaders knew each other well and were in an alliance.
They would eventually meet again, when her clan leaders, Polaris and Cynosura, came to visit the ship and speak to her parents. A few of the warriors also showed up, including Hati. The two enjoyed talking and drank some ginger ale while some of the other warriors spoke to old friends. During this time, Hati gushed over a particularly pretty blue Nocturne that was looking over the dock; Hilde would eventually learn her name: Harana, one of the best warriors within their clan and the clan leaders' adopted niece; one of the clan's shapeshifters. Hilde's heart sunk upon hearing Hati sing praises of her, though she didn't understand why yet.
After this, Hati and Hilde met each other once a week to chat by the beach. Hilde found her heart skipping a beat every single time she saw Hati smile. However, she realized, she couldn't have Hati, especially since there was someone else on her mind. Still, she looked forward to their interactions and enjoyed them, even after Hati and Harana started dating.
Eventually, the time came when she would have to set sail on her own ship. Hilde hoped that, at the very least, she would get to see Hati one more time before going onboard.
However, when she came to the shorelines, only to find Harana crying instead of Hati, that changed immediately. Upon asking her what happened, Harana asked her if she had seen Hati. She cried a little louder when Hilde told her that she hadn't.
"She's been gone for a week! The clan's been searching everywhere for her, but there's no trace of her anywhere... Do you know where she could be?"
This immediately worried Hilde. She couldn't recall seeing any signs that Hati had been going through something, or that she was lonely. If anything, their last conversation was a happy one. Where could she have gone?
But then, she recalled something that Hati once told her.
"...You are lucky to have such kind parents. I had to run away from mine, long ago..."
Harana became troubled upon hearing this, and after staring at the horizon for a bit, without explanation, she thanked Hilde and flew off.
Hilde couldn't sleep that night. Of course, Harana knew something she didn't, and it upset her. Hati was her friend, and she was determined to find out what the truth was. What was Hati hiding from her?
That very night, she grabbed a map, borrowed a small ship, and set sail on the waves.
"Follow the North Star, and if you will it, you can find us."
She was stunned to find Harana waiting at the edge of the island with a bag slung over her shoulder. When the bridge leading inside the ship opened, she got on the ship and greeted Hilde, setting her bag aside.
"I had a feeling you were going to find us. I was about to fly off on my own, but...something tells me that Hati never told you everything about herself. You're her friend, so you deserve answers."
Harana explained that her clan found Hati alone in a small basket on the night of the eclipse; a strange light brought them to her. They saw the mark on her shoulder and took her in, in fear that someone could misuse her power. Being in a clan of warriors as ancient as the stars themselves, she never stood out in any way aside from the strange powers she had. She went on missions with Harana and a few others often, and this helped her grow. However, she often had nightmares of her parents, and always had trouble sleeping. One night, she told to a horrified Hilde, during a Shade attack, she went primal - bared her teeth and went into a blood lusting frenzy, killing every enemy in sight.
Usually, when things like this happen, the first thing that occurs is that the monster is hunted down and locked away.
Instead of locking her away, however, Polaris could sense the struggle within her. He encouraged her to get help - to see someone to teach her how to control her power and her inner aggressive instincts, and maybe have someone to open up to.
"...And she got better. She gained more control of herself after that. But... her nightmares got worse. She was screaming every night. I stayed by her side to comfort her, but she didn't want to be a burden."
"Did she say what her dreams were about?"
Harana shook her head.
"She couldn't even bring herself to tell me. I knew it definitely had something to do with her parents, for sure. She would talk in her sleep, begging her parents to leave her alone, or something along those lines. Whenever we tried to enter her dreams to see if we could assist her, her magic power would defend her and push us back out of her head."

Harana pulled a letter out of her bag, telling Hilde that she found it not long after she spoke to her earlier that day, encouraging her to read it. Tears fell out of her eyes as she read the part about herself. Harana gently comforted her, encouraging her to follow Hati's words. They spent the rest of the night, chatting about their times with Hati and getting to know each other better. Eventually, by dawn, she had to leave, but not before Harana gave her some of her contact information, in case she wanted to chat.
The very next day, Hilde became captain of her own ship and set sail, with newfound willpower and confidence. She set up correspondence with Harana, who sometimes came by to help out her crew when she was bored of her constant clan missions. The two worked surprisingly well together. Eventually, over time, their close friendship turned to something more, and they became lovers for a year or so before settling on being just friends due to work schedules and being too busy for each other.
Not too long after that, Hilde accidentally stumbled upon a dark cult intent on killing the deities and tampering with things that shouldn't be touched at all. For this, they attempted to kill her, though they didn't expect her to fight back the way she did. She managed to rescue a little Gaoler that they were using for their own purposes, but instead of running away like she told him to, he searched for help and found it in some of Harana's clanmates, who happened to be in the area at the time. Froste, the little Gaoler, managed to resurrect Hilde and her crew just as they were near death. This granted her some brand new powers, including glowing eyes, granting her the power of a will o' wisp, along with the ability to see the dead. They brought her back to the clan infirmary, and healed her wounds, only to learn that some of the surviving cult members have kidnapped Bjorn, her brother. They barely managed to rescue him, though unfortunately, someone had to be sacrificed in order for him to live. After this, Lorelei and her crew members joined Clan Avnokodro. Clan Avnokodro is currently working together with Ragnar and Lorelei and many of the other Viking descendants to get to the bottom of what this cult's true motives are.
