Notes from Pippen's journal

While digging deeper in an attempt to expand our lair's space, we stumbled across a colony of creatures that looked like dragons, but.. It's nothing like I've ever seen. It's like they're bugs inside of a dragons body. Most of them seem to be mindless beings that take command from one, their leader. They were all in some sort of hibernation when we found them, and they seemed so clueless when we woke them..

Their leader seems to have contracted some sort of infection. It doesn't seem contagious, but I'll have to preform further experiments to confirm that. Although their body is broken, I managed to subdue the infection to prevent it from getting worse. These beings seem to believe that I'm the only one who can keep their leader alive, and we have formed an alliance from that. While I do have a cure in mind to heal this creature, I don't believe I am going to do so. Restoring them completely would make them lose interest in being allies with us, and may result in an attack. They seem dangerous.. So, I'm going to let them believe there's no cure for it and that I have to continuously heal and subdue the infection. If there proves to be any sort of threat for us, the failsafe is to stop healing them and let this colony die off slowly.

It seems they have laid dormant underground for quite some time, but the structures they have created are quite amazing. Their bodies blend in quite well to the Starwood Strands, as they're the same color as the blooms of the trees.. What a curious species.

A few weeks have passed since the initial discovery of this strange colony, and the clan has become much calmer about the presence of our buglike neighbors. I believe this is because their leader, who we've named TATTERED due to her broken appearance, seems to keep them passive towards us. It seems that our alliance is working, though sometimes I feel sorry for the poor creature. I wish I could heal her fully, but from what I've gathered, these dragon lookalikes lack morals.

Upon studying her illness further, TATTERED seems to be affected by a disease that was carried to her by force. Although I'm not sure who or what would be able to transmit such a disease, I don't think they will ever return for them to be any danger to our clan. I have confirmed that TATTERED is not contagious and that it's safe for other drones to be around her.

As for the rest of her colony, TATTERED's minions have been busy working on a strange specimen. I wasn't able to get a close look, as they kept buzzing and glaring aggressively at me, but it looks to be a small child of their own. I suppose that they have been breeding and growing in numbers since I last visited, though I'm not quite sure what they have planned for the child. I suppose I'll just have to continue observing and be patient.

I have recently discovered that TATTERED's illness doesn't solely affect her body. Upon studying her further, I have found that it also has affected her mind in a way I don't quite understand. She seems to be more humane than her minions, as when I accidentally tripped along my way out of their home, TATTERED ordered her minions to help me up. Although I'm not sure if she was trying to help me or just wanted me out, I still have reasons to believe that she's developing emotions and morals.

One of the main reasons I have developed this theory is the baby Imperial her minions have been working on. They're finally complete and seem to be full of emotion, but it's clear to me that it's only what they are supposed to feel. I have named them PET, which stands for Prescription Emotional Therapy, as I found that that was what it was designed to do. They seem to talk to TATTERED and work with them independently to keep herself acting normal.

It has become clear to me now what TATTERED did to come down with such an illness. Upon exploring the depths of their strange home did I find an old town-looking area with fountains and lights. It's very small and seems to be abandoned, but it looked to be like these creatures were living with dragonkind at some point. Searching around the area, I stumbled across a little scroll neatly tucked away under one of the lampposts. It seems to be a note left behind by the one who infected TATTERED in the first place.

I've now realized who I've been bargaining with this entire time; a complete monster. If this note is correct and the writer is being truthful, TATTERED forced a group of dragons to live down here by clipping their wings and forcefully encasing their paws so that they wouldn't be able to dig their way out. Although it's unknown why she would want to do this, as they never had to do labor, it's still terrifying to think that such a brittle creature was someone who forced another to live in a completely unknown and isolated environment.

The writer describes themselves as a wandering Plague mage who was captured by TATTERED's minions but managed to escape before they were stuck down in the underground town. Helping the other dragons escape, the mage created a special virus using all their magic to cause TATTERED to slowly decay and endure a slow death. Although, it seems to have other effects on the creature. TATTERED seems to show more emotion these days than what is described in these notes; perhaps it's karma for the lack of sympathy she showed for the kidnapped dragons. I take back the previously mentioned guilt I had for not curing this creature, it's a punishment well-deserved.
