Liars, the entire group of them. This place was not their Charge.

Yalanzan held her tongue. Palus knew she could not.

What they did only proved her right. They would say whatever they wanted to keep two trusting young dragons in line, and if they wouldn't buy it, they'd force the issue.

They'd say Yalanzan was the dumb one, the one who rarely spoke and never argued. Palus disagreed. She was wise in a way she couldn't be. Of course, the agony she saw her sister in broke her code of keeping her head down.

So they both suffered for her mistake. Though the masks of their 'shame' did end up being useful to the sisters, as well as their tormentors. It was easier to see how the other was thinking. To be able to know deep within that they both cared for one another. That they'd make it together, somehow. That they didn't blame one another for what those who dwelled within the gates did to them.

That it was easier for Yalanzan to keep up the facade of clueless dragon, with Palus already pegged the 'troublemaker'. That when Palus objected it was the two sisters as one objecting, not that those monsters knew.

The worst they could do now would be to separate them. Though they wouldn't dare. They were effective guards, much as they hated it.

Surely scaring dragons away from such a horrid place was only a good thing to do.
