Biography

Downsoft was born in the southern reaches of the Starfall Isles. Her early years were spent with her birth clan, which was led by her parents. It was a happy time. She was curious by nature, with a cloud of the softest fuzz that earned her her name. Her parents taught her to respect the Arcanist. While none of the clan were of the bookish kind, they were fond of him. They enjoyed looking at the stars. Many of them also liked to learn about plants and animals, and their applications.

Unfortunately, things came to an end. A terrible heatwave led to a drought, and in turn to food scarcity. Her clan was small and without many fighters, living by misfortune in one of the worst hit areas, and her parents were maybe not the wisest, not having thought of stocking up much for a hard season. Already weakened by hunger, a harsh encounter with some Serthis equally desperate for food led to mortal injuries to many of the clan. Downsoft was one of the few who survived. Between struggle and grief, the clan scattered.

The loss she had endured pushed Downsoft to become a healer. If she found a new clan for herself, she would ensure that they were safe and healthy at all times. She turned to the wisdom of the Arcanist and scoured the Tourmaline Archive for knowledge. Books had never been her strong suit, but she read and re-read all she could find. Her memory was good enough for a Tundra, which is not all that impressive for some other races, but nonetheless she put it all to good use.

After her studies, she began to travel to offer aid to those in need. She crossed the harsh peaks of the Crystalpine Reaches, looking for the wounded and the injuries who could use her help. The dangers didn't scare her, because not all of the spells she had learnt were meant for healing. Along the way, she came across many clans, some of which also invited her to join. As much as she disliked being on her own, she always refused. Most clans were already well established, and seeing them reminded her painfully of the family she had lost.

During her travels, she eventually met a strange pair of wandering dragons. The Mirror Green, and the Guardian Sunstorm. At this time, Green had received injuries during a fight and Sunstorm was fretting over him, although her knowledge of the healing arts was very lacking. Soft offered her aid, taking care of Green's injuries. Sunstorm was very grateful that she would heal her Charge. As for Green, he was an outcast, and the wounds had put him in a horribly sullen mood, but Downsoft found he had a certain charm too.

She didn't expect to develop deeper feelings for him, but she did. With him and the ever loyal Sunstorm with them, Downsoft began to wonder if she could perhaps think about settling down and starting a family. There were some stipulations, of course. The place for them to settle had to have good resources, and they would make sure to stockpile for the future. Good thing that all three of them had traveled much, and knew many such places. Some got discarded for one reason or the other. In the end, they found themselves in a nice area by the name of Alkaid Vale, with some convenient caves that could be enlarged to become a proper lair.

It was beautiful for Downsoft, to have her own clan back. She and Green had a good number of children, and she did her best to put some good sense into all the clan's little ones, including those that weren't hers. As a healer, she also welcomes dragons who may need her help. But while a patient and caring dragon, she can still turn ferocious if she feels that her family is threatened.

For all the horrible sicknesses the Plaguebringer had brought into the world, there isn't any that was as much of a pain to Downsoft as the common cold. She's an accomplished healer, and yet every year it left her stumped. No matter how many potions she brewed or healing spells she cast, there was no avoiding a good month of sneezing from half the clan.

"And breathe the fumes in, alright?" Downsoft says.

Inspire nods, and leaves looking as miserable as can be. His cold has progressed into a full blown sinus infection, and the headaches have been killing him.

"Think that's the last of our patients," Earthghost comments. She's spent the day brewing remedies with Downsoft. Because she's helpful, but Downsoft suspected it was mostly to escape Sanguine's constant congested complaining. Xe was so big, and yet such a hatchling whenever xe got sick.

Downsoft hums. "Don't count on it, I heard Snapshot sneeze earlier, and he hasn't come asking for remedies yet."

One day Downsoft will figure out a way to at least keep colds contained to one single dragon at a time. Two, maybe. Not have six fall sick within the span of three days.
