Not only is Opheodrys fascinated with wildlife, but she considers it her duty as a servant of the Gladekeeper to care for and rehabilitate all injured wildlife she finds. Some clan members see her endeavors as pointless since they consider wild animals to be prey and little else, but Opheodrys holds firm to the belief that dragonkind should help nature thrive whenever possible. No matter how small or significant an animal’s injury may be, the Pearlcatcher seems to know intuitively how to fix it and does so with great care, causing minimal pain and stress to the animal. Opheodrys is so dedicated to her calling that she often spends her free time in Izrea’s healing den, learning operations which she then figures out how to perform on animals other than dragons. Occasionally, Rhea stops by her rehabilitation den (located in a hollowed oak tree trunk) to offer her services, performing certain rituals to ask the Gladekeeper to ease a dying animal’s pain or to quicken their healing. Most of the clan members which appreciate and value nature also respect Opheodrys’ work and enjoy visiting her den when the Pearlcatcher plans to release an animal back into the wild. Since some animals are too severely injured to ever return to a life in the wild, Opheodrys finds them a home in her oak tree and ensures that they are well taken care of for the rest of their days. Despite the wishes of some clan members, Opheodrys has made it clear that these unreleasable animals will never be prey for the clan, a rule which KucKuc strongly enforces.
