Esmerelda

Orphaned as a young hatchling, Esmerelda learned the skills necessary for survival at an early age. The formative years of her life were spent as an outcast, a member of the dregs of society, begging for scraps of food and bits of treasure from generous clans and running for her life from less generous ones. She traveled from territory to territory throughout Sorneith, keeping the company of no one but Sasha, whom she found abandoned and starving to death as a small kitten. Realizing that no clan would take in an outcast that had no skills, Esmerelda set out to learn one, something valuable that any clan could use, something that would improve the lives of those she met, something she could use to help others rather than hurt them, as so many had done to her. And so, she became a healer.

She began by treating her own injuries incurred from a life of being an outcast. Once she learned the basics of healing she began to share her knowledge with others like herself, treating the common infections and ailments of those forced by circumstance to live a life of solitude. Highly observant, she would sneak quietly into healer's dens across Sorneith-- some were kind enough to keep her as an apprentice for short spans of time, and all who did came to admire her quick wit and calm yet efficient manner of treating her patients. Eventually, the resourceful Pearlcatcher found herself in the good graces of Izrea, who taught her less about healing (she knew plenty already) and more about the meaning of family. The longer she spent with Xayxayx clan, the more Esmerelda dreaded being turned away as she inevitably always was...

But this clan was different.
