Bleeding bleeding bleeding everywhere there is blood.

His eyes he could not see through, he felt the blood upon them. It was thick, and sticky, and would have caused him even greater distress if it hadn't been his own body's fluids that blinded him.

Algernon was- is, of the breed of dragons known for being adventurers. The sort to crave exploration, the spirits who cannot rest in one land for more than a week before they must again be off, for the unknown calls to them.

He so lusted after experience that, while he could not easily forsake his own life, he would put himself in situations where it would be near deadly, time and time again.

It went too far in these ruins. Dying dying dying I am dying. He held tightly to his pearl, eyes wide with his panic, though he could not see.

I cannot die it cannot end like this

'You could live.'

A voice, dense with promises and dry as sand-worn bones, was in his head, even as he whirled in his panic. Who is there where are you I cannot see

'I can give you back your life.'

Give it back I want it back I need to live I cannot die

'What will you pay for it?'

Anything anything I want to live I will give anything.

Eyes opened on a world, filled with terror. The ground was there, beneath him, his wings were unmangled, the blood had dried to a caky and cracking mask, and was rubbed away.

Looking around, searching for the voice that had saved him. All he found was a spirit, with no lights in its eye sockets, but which was staring dead at him.

'You will pay anything.'

He shuddered at the thought that this spirit would be using him for malign purposes Without saying a word, he took to the air, meaning to escape whatever cursed happenings were in this ruins.

The spirit watched, collapsing in a heap of bones. It would not follow with the same corpse, but follow it would. The curse would not be left in a place, for its home was the blood and body of the drake it had saved.

Memento Mori
Generation 1button_by_cas_a_fras-dclednr.png
Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.

This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain.
