Cymbeline
She died warm and happy, surrounded by the people she loved- death was a release from months of agony and pain spent trying to recover, trying to heal, and failing time and time again. There were tears, but not from her. With a smile on her face she clutched her pearl and fell into peace, finally. The cries of her friends and family faded as she slipped away with a final sigh, the last breath of air leaving her lungs. Or so she thought. The voice was new- unexpected. God or demon, she didn’t know- but it was calling out to her, honey sweet. “Cymbeline,” the feminine voice called gently, as if trying to wake her out of a deep, deep sleep. “Cymbeline, awaken” she tried again. Pink eyes opened slowly and gently as Cymbeline sat up and took in her surroundings- it was dark, but she could see who was there with her- a bird, it seemed, cloaked and hooded. She expected a harsh crowing from the familiar, but the soft voice had apparently been coming from her. “It is time for your second chance.” Brow furrowing, Cymbeline looked over the figure- who was she? What was she doing here? Was this the afterlife? But one question burned harder than the other. “Second chance?” |

Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife. 
This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Moros' children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain. |
