ACTIUS
Patriarch // Archery Captain // he/him
Patriarch // Archery Captain // he/him
Actius is the clan patriarch and co-founder. Before he came upon this role, Actius lived for adventure. His days were spent trekking uncharted territories and noting the local flora and fauna, happy with his claws covered in dirt and his backpack full of handmade maps. Actius even befriended a Chipskink along the way- who he creatively named Chip- and the two quickly became travel companions. Until one day, Actius came across Nepetoideae, then a lone fae carving out a lair in the Crystalspine Reaches. The two soon fell in love, and that was that. Being a lifelong explorer, settling down wasn't easy. But meeting Nep made Actius want to try. To him, she was a beacon of knowledge, of ambition, of magic- one that couldn't be charted down on any map. Nep was born with higher than average magical reserves, and the Arcane curiosity to match it. Actius, though his magic was average, finally found a fellow researcher to share his joy- him with creatures and the land, her with crystals and the stars. As their clan grew and their first nest was laid, Actius' responsibilities took him further and further away from his research. But that didn't matter to him. Actius turned out to be very family-oriented; he absolutely adored all hatchlings, especially his own. He spoiled his hatchlings rotten, reading them stories of his old adventures and letting them ride on Chip's back. He was equally as involved in his growing clan, making sure things ran smoothly by Nep's side. He was a husband, a father, a co-founder. He was in love. |

But time changes all things. One night, when their hatchlings were still young, Nep witnessed a stray meteor strike nearby. No matter how much Actius warned her to stay away, reminding her their only priority was their children until they matured, Nep didn't listen. And she even used deceit to get what she wanted. Since that day, Nep strayed from the family. Actius could only watch with a pit in his stomach as his beloved mate shut out everything else around her- everything they'd sacrificed so much to achieve- just to stoop over some dumb crystals. But while Nep removed herself from her responsibilities, at least in Actius' eyes, he became all the more involved. He began training a legion of archers to protect and provide for the clan. While Actius does have great pride in this, it practically sealed the coffin to any chance of free time. He won't have a vacation anytime soon, but Actius is more concerned about his hatchlings. He feels guilty he no longer has time to visit them as much as he'd like, even if they're both grown up now. Now his days are packed with training his archers, carrying out his other patriarch duties filling the gaps Nep left, and using any remaining time he has to visit his dear kids. But no matter, he once again tells himself. The clan comes first. At least one of them will continue that promise. |
End of the Beginning - End of Something Familiar
(WIP - Needs some revamp)
Something was wrong.
Actius had known for quite a long time now, actually. Ever since the discovery of the meteor, Nep had been acting strange. Or, he didn't want to admit, stranger than usual. Actius couldn't help but to think back to the old days, back when Nep acted like her normal self; where was the small, endearing smile, the witty, clever jokes, the wide, loving eyes? It was if she had completely transformed. Now, Nep was eerily quiet, mysterious even. She became odd, off-putting, and she stared through others as if she wasn't truly there. Nep even began pushing her matriarch duties aside, which she once considered to be the greatest priority of all, in favor of her magic obsession. She had always been a devoted patron to the Arcanist and a keen scholar on arcane magic, Actius knew that, but this was on a completely different level.
Shortly after they agreed to create a new clan together, Nep started becoming even more invested in her arcane studies. She constantly practiced her magic and devoted herself to becoming stronger, developing her already abnormally large magic reserves. Thankfully, things calmed down a little when their first nest hatched, and Nep's motherly nature took over one again. Until the meteor struck, that is.
At that point, Actius' concerns and worries had boiled over. In an explosion of pent-up emotions he begged Nep to stay in the nest with the family instead of going out to investigate, going as far as to tackle her out of the sky when she attempted to take flight. So when Nep returned to order their (albeit small) number of clanmates to not approach the meteor and then began grooming their children, Actius was beyond relieved. He thought that perhaps a normal, happy family life was a plausible future once again, and went to sleep with his heart at ease.
He was wrong.
Nep had gone to the meteor while Actius was sleeping. She had gone behind his back! And she even called off their clanmates so she could have the meteor all to herself, didn't she?! Actius' greatest fears soon became a reality once again. Just as he predicted, Nep took several trips a day to the meteor, and each day her obsession became worse and worse. There was no use talking sense into her; no matter how many arguments they had, no matter how many clan duties she ignored, no matter how many times her own children asked why their mother disappeared again, Nep simply refused to listen. Once again, she was off in her own mind, more distant than usual for weeks as she nursed the findings as if they were her own hatchlings. Nep even started wearing pieces of crystal excavated from the meteor as jewelry, boosting her magic and strength immensely, and hid her new powers from the rest of the clan by storing it in her reserves. Actius often wonders if she knows he isn't fooled; her expressionless face is getting harder and harder to read even for him, after all. Does Nep keep her emotions a blank slate around him because she simply doesn't care? Or is she hiding how she feels? He often regrets not doing more to stop her from investigating the meteor. The Arcanist's Gift, Nep had called it. As if! What sort of gift tore families apart?
CHIP - FAMILIAR Chip is Actius' Chipskink. They've been travel partners for years and are always seen together. Actius treats him like a good pal or a loyal pet, and would sometimes let Kierin and Saphyn ride him when they were younger. Chip used to match with Nep's familiar, a Bluelight Chipskink- but as Nep interacted with them less and less, so did the other Chipskink. |
these guys were supposed to be completely normal clan leaders but then i wrote their lore while feeling angsty one day and now they need to go on dr. phil lmao

And Actius wraps this up! I love the note in his bio that he likes to babysit familiars and always has his chipskink with him. His colors are really nice too, I love the mix of purple and orange, and your gene plan for him looks great! Noxtide especially, with the purple accent, is perfect for him. I hope one day he gets to retire and enjoy going on some more adventures, he deserves it :3

You can really feel how much Actius adores his mate, it's quite beautiful and all the more tragic when disaster inevitably strikes. I feel so bad for him, trying to make the right decision, even if he doesn't know if it is the right one or not. The dichotomy between these two characters is really fun and compelling!
