Biography
Irwing
[ Assistant of the Grove Tender ] _______________________________________________________ Inventory: _______________________________________________________ |
|
This Nocturne is a rather nervous and shy boy, but it doesn't hinder him too much to show how kind he can be. Gardening has been his favorite hobby since he was young and he has always loved to give away fragrant herbs to garnish and enhance the other dragons' meals. Despite his magic having little to do with the art of gardening, he is surprisingly green-clawed and can remember how to take good care of many, many different kinds of plants. Herbs are his specialty though. As he is the assistant of Aldwyn, who has been tasked to care for hidden grove that is the Clan Matriarch's Charge, he has also been entrusted with this important task. He may be nervous of the silent Guardian but there's no denying how honored he is to have been entrusted with caring for the Charge. He has been allowed to grow herbs in the hidden grove as a thank-you and a sign of trust. While not one who likes to make a lot of noise, he does like to play the flute and decorate the lair with bells that makes pleasant chiming noises when the wind blow through. |

Irwing was born and raised in the outskirts of the Millmeadows in the Windswept Plateau. He doesn't really remember his father, who didn't stay in his birth Clan for long, and he didn't really have much of a relationship with his mother. His mother was an Wildclaw alchemist with a very nervous yet stoic disposition, which resulted in Irwing not having a very stable youth. The mother was more interested in reading books and experimenting with alchemy than caring for little Irwing or his two younger siblings. Irwing had to be the parent to himself and his siblings instead. This meant that he was kept quite busy, as his siblings were much more boisterous than he was. What little free time he had was spent doing his hobbies: Playing the flute, and gardening. |
Eventually, he heard of a young gardener who was residing in the Viridian Labyrinth and was so incredible skilled with caring for plants and designing gardens. Irwing came to realize that he didn't want to stay in this village forever: he wanted to meet this skilled gardener and learn more from him. So Irwing decided to travel from the Windswept Plateau and all the way to the Viridian Labyrinth. There he found the dragon he was looking for.
The gardener turned out to be a Coatl known as Aldwyn. He was very flattered that Irwing wanted to become his assistant and student, and agreed to take him under his wing. It took a while before they became able to communicate well though. It turned out that Aldwyn had a hard time talking in Draconian instead of his native Coatl language. But Irwing was determined to learn how to understand him. His determination to understand Aldwyn and his enthusiasm for gardening, as well as Aldwyn's jolly and relaxed personality, resulted in the two becoming good friends. Irwing even grew to view Aldwyn as the older brother he never had.
One day, Aldwyn was requested to go all the way to the Southern Icefields at the request of an acquaintance. Irwing didn't hesitate to follow the Coatl. There they learned that the acquaintance, a Guardian named Apholith, had found her Charge which turned out to be a lush grove hidden away with a cold mountain of Cloudscrape Crags. She asked them to help care for the grove, as she had little knowledge of gardening and feared that the grove could die if not properly taken cared of. Both Aldwyn and Irwing agreed to stay and care for the grove.
Now Irwing remains with the Southwind Clan. Even if much of his nervousness remains, he feels truly happy here. He can tend to the beautiful grove together with his teacher and adopted brother Aldwyn, play the flute and decorate the lair with bells, and grow herbs that he can give away to others.

Trivia:
- His main area of expertise when it comes to gardening is herbs, but he can care for a wide variety of plants with ease. He's very interested in learning of the plants native to the Southern Icefields and to see if any of them would be a good addition to meals.
- Surprisingly, Irwing is able to understand the humming language of Coatls. He has become a translator for Aldwyn, who struggles to speak Draconian.
- Irwing is very fond of music, bells and gentle chimes. He's not very skilled with his flute yet but it isn't unpleasant to hear him practice at least. He likes to decorate the lair with bells and chimes, so when the wind passes through the lair, a pleasant melody may echo through the caverns.
- Irwing may be considered very active for a Nocturne. Having grown up on the open plains of the Windswept Plateau and being born of the Wind flight may be the reason as to why he keeps himself so active compared to many other of the same breed.
- It's unclear if he shares the characteristic that Nocturnes are known to have: the tendency to mimic those around him. His eagerness to give away the herbs he has grown is sometimes seen as a result of him being around Coatls so much, seeing that they are known for giving gifts as signs of good will. Aldwyn claims that Irwing has always wanted to give away herbs but there are a few who doubts this claim.
- When not tending to to the grove, Irwing and Aldwyn help gather plant food for the rest of the Clan from the nearby area.
