Biography
Digging is hard work, work few dragons are willing to undertake. Still harder is digging graves, since it is often so personal. To lose a loved one is distressing enough without having to cover them in earth forevermore. But it's work that Sorine does nonetheless, even when it moves her to tears. Someone must do it, she reasons, because the dead cannot be left to rot above ground, ravaged by the elements and torn apart by scavengers. That would be cruel, though perhaps more to the living than the dead. It is the living, after all, that attend the funerals and weep. The dead need nothing after they pass. Knowing that, though, doesn't make the job any easier, especially when the graves must be dug for those without names, without families. Sorine hates those, but pities them far more than she could ever hate them, because they have nothing and no one in their final moments. They don't need anyone, she tries to remind herself, but sometimes, sentimentality cannot be helped. She leaves glass on those graves, a circle of sand struck with a weak bolt of her magic. She will remember them, even if no one else does. She has buried them and marked their graves. She will not forget.
