Mocha

Backstory: Mocha’s mother, Zanhorn was a master metal forger. She learned how to harness magic and dark fire to fuse metal into scales. Zanhorn was the real inventor of the filigree gene. However, when the Flamecaller had learned that Zanhorn, a worshipper of the Shadowbinder of all things, had developed a metallic hereditary gene, the goddess was absolutely furious. The Flamecaller demanded that the dragons in her domain create something better. Although, some of the Flamecaller’s more prideful and malevolent children decided to hunt down Zanhorn and take credit for her inventions. Because of those hostile Flamecaller worshippers, Mocha and her her mother Zanhorn were constantly on the move to avoid being discovered. In the early spring, Mocha and her mother were traveling on a ship headed to the Tangled Woods. Some worshippers of the Flamecaller had learned of this ahead of time and gotten on the same ship. Once land was far from sight, the Flamecaller worshippers took control of the ship. They captured Mocha and Zanhorn and bound the mirror dragons’ wings. The followers of the Flamecaller planned to kill Zanhorn and Mocha, but they needed to learn how to make a filigree gene. Zanhorn purposely explained how to craft very slowly so she could buy enough time to break her daughter’s wing’s bondages. Zanhorn had just managed to untie the last knot holding Mocha’s wings together before the Flamecaller Followers dragged the mother mirror dragon away to have her killed. Mocha held back her sobs as she pretended to be bound by her loosely strung ropes. Once the Flamecaller worshippers had left, Mocha jumped off of the ship. Although, as the hatchling left the ship behind her, she heard her mother cry out in pain. Zanhorn had ordered Mocha to flea from the ship, but Mocha still blames herself for her mother’s death. The hatchling flew for a few miles over the Sea of a Thousand Currents until her wings gave out and she fell into the sea. Around the time, Chaol and Mikoo were fishing with their older brother, Mango. Chaol happened to see Mocha’s body bobbing on the surface of the water and instantly flew over to retrieve the unconscious mirror dragon. From there, the dragons rushed Mocha to the Tsunami Flats where she could be properly treated and revived. Fortunately, Neo healed the mirror dragon’s physical injuries. Once Mocha woke up, she was absolutely terrified. The mirror dragon hid in the tiniest crevasse between to rocks she could find. Many members of the Aquafire Clan tried to get the mirror dragon out of her hiding place although those dragons unknowingly scared Mocha more. Mocha had developed an extreme phobia of large dragons since her mother’s murderers had been very large. The members of the Aquafire Clan couldn’t get Mocha to eat or speak. Fortunately, Amora read the little mirror’s thoughts and shooed away all the dragons crowding around Mocha hiding spot. Chaol and Mikoo had been watching the older dragons try to coax Mocha out of her hiding place. Once Amora had told the other dragons to leave she signaled for Mikoo and Chaol to come closer. Now, Chaol was very small because he was a fae dragon and his brother Mikoo was usually small for a tundra dragon. Amora had a feeling the two dragons would be better at calming Mocha down than the others. For a few days, Amora, Mikoo and Chaol periodically visited the mirror dragon together. Most of the time, Chaol and Mikoo would talk with the hatchling, but the two also preformed tricks for Mocha and got the mirror dragon to laugh. Amora would sing to the hatchling occasionally and brought candy to the mirror dragon (which Mocha actually ate). Mocha did eventually come out of her hiding place, but she always stayed by a Mikoo’s and Chaol’s sides. Mikoo and Chaol grew very fond of the their little mirror dragon. They taught Mocha how to fight and play pranks on the other dragons without getting caught. They called Mocha their sister. Amora was a lot like a mother to Mocha. As the days passed, Mocha gained her confidence back and overcame her fears with the help off Mikoo, Chaol and Amora. Mocha even decided to follow her mother’s footsteps and become a metal forger.

Personality: Mocha is a cheerful and imaginative dragon. She loves melting metals with dark fire (a type of fire dragons of the shadow element can harness) and creating new things. Mocha is a Tom boy at heart.

Soul Mate: Tide

Familiar: Mocha’s ember mouse, Flicker, used to be Chaol’s. Chaol has found the creature in the Training Fields when he was training with his father, Leon. Before Flicker had been Mocha’s familiar she still loved the little ember mouse. Although, once Chaol reached adulthood, he knew he wanted to serve the Tidelord with his brother, Mikoo. Before Chaol left to serve the Tidelord, he gave Flicker to Mocha and promised he would visit as often as possible. Flicker enjoys helping Mocha forge metal with his fire breath. Flicker also likes drinking melted cheese like many other ember mice and is known to steal cheese from members of the Aquafire Clan.
