One of the few skydancers who dislikes flying, Apira chooses to spend her time researching, documenting, and painstakingly painting likenesses of minerals and crystals she finds. She found the City of Saibhreas when she was very young -- young enough that it hadn't been her choice to stay. Her parents abandoned her at the border between the Windswept Plateau and the Sea of a Thousand Currents. She may have starved to death if a hunting party from the Shifting Expanse hadn't found her. Lightning clans can always make use of an extra set of paws, and Saibhreas was a light/lightning border city at its core. They took her with them and raised her. Eventually, she settled in Saibhreas, having befriended the charming bogsneak pirate who looked startlingly like her. He had been the one to find her on the shore that fateful day. They became fast friends, bonding over the time they invested in grooming themselves (or their hides would quickly turn brown with dust and dirt). Kiril is an eccentric dragon. He loves to weave long tapestries depicting with great dignity the trials and tribulations of day-to-day life. Rendered in exquisite detail, images of squirrels squabbling and dragons cleaning the day's catch can be found in his work. Apira rather likes his passion and attention to the mundane things -- it reminds her of her passion for rocks and minerals. Apira finally had the time to explore her love of shiny things. She could even keep them and study them for longer periods of time, now that she had a place she could call home. Over time, her discoveries caught the attention of scholars and mages in both the Sunbeam Ruins and the Starfall Isles and impressed the native geologists in Dragonhome. Her work enabled new advances in magical technology (pioneered by Lightning engineers, of course). She hoped that the improved quality of life she helped to create would prevent other hatchlings from suffering the fate of being abandoned by parents who couldn't take care of them... just like she had been. Now, she concentrates on her research and on raising her dozens of children with Kiril -- they're just as passionate, intelligent, and stubborn as their parents. She hopes they, too, can change Sornieth for the better. |
