Makeda Ascalon hails from Clan Solstella, a research-obsessed organisation based in a coastal academy of the Sunbeam Ruins. There, acolytes and magisters devote their time studying local ruins from the Second Age and experimenting with ancient magic to unlock their secrets. Although officially conducting these investigations for the glory of the Lightweaver, many families used their powers for selfish purposes. The Ascalons had a business in antiques; few of them were actual magisters studying artifacts, but they had made a fortune excavating relics and selling them to prestigious universities and private museums. Makeda received an education in art history and became a very successful art dealer around Lanternlea Port, before being enticed to move to the (now former) Caravanserai capital which had been growing into a major trade hub. She secured new digging contracts around the Hewn City for the aristocracy, and sponsored several successful expeditions to unearth rare and dangerous artifacts from past ages. |

Today most refer to her as a "Merchant Queen" as she controls most of the clan's trade in an out of the Sunbeam Ruins, and is one of the major dealers of artefacts in the business, legal or otherwise. In recent years she's been looking at ways to extend her life through supernatural means, fueling further her interest in occult items.
To cross her is to make a very powerful enemy.

| Oskorei is a ghost bound to his own enchanted skull. At the moment the skull has fallen into the greedy hands of Makeda, who has it mounted in her private office, calling upon him when she wants a distraction. Occasional visitors do not suspect the antlered skull is more than what it seems. |
| Makeda thought Perpherine had potential; she paid her tuition at the Botanical School of Moshkaran, imagining her daughter would one day be the tool to finally grow her own influence with the brewers of the metropolis. However Perpherine is now mostly estranged from her mother. |
| Palak used to work as a go between for Makeda. When she learned her former empoyee worked in the same clan her estranged daughter Perpherine had gone to, she decided to get her hooks back into the fae, blackmailing him into spying on Perpherine for her and passing along messages. |

On rare occasions she might keep a youngling around with a private tutor - if they sound promising to her schemes. She wouldn't want her empire to go into enemy hands, as a matter of fact, so having some sort of 'heir' to her fortune someday would be logical. However her distateful persona makes it impossible to sustain healthy relationships.
Due to Orphen's supernatural nature, these offspring often have an unearhtly or uncanny aura about them; some may even develop mystical powers, or a connection to death and spirits, though it is up to each dragon whether they see it as a curse or as a blessing.
