Biography
Name meaning: A lance is a long weapon for thrusting, having a wooden shaft and a pointed steel head, formerly used by a horseman in charging.
Lance came from the Sundial Terrace of the Sunbeam Ruins, where his family was big and perfect. His parents' relationship was upheld as an ideal in the clan and his siblings all went off to do great things. Despite his own failure to do anything particularly remarkable with his life, his mother - with all her great wisdom - never looked down on him. For some reason, this made him feel like more of a letdown as he watched each of his siblings achieve the greatness she so often looked for in dragons of their clan. So, at the first opportunity he could find, he left on an adventure to find something great to do.
On this journey, he ended up meeting Pidge and Hunk, who became his mates. For a while at first, Lance tried to put on a much more confident act with the hope of convincing someone who didn't know him that he was someone special. They ended up seeing through him and recognizing it for the projected insecurity that it was, but they helped him realize that he hadn't been giving himself enough credit. He didn't need to accomplish anyone else's vague definition of "greatness" in order to be great. It was a pretty slow turnaround for him, but he feels much better knowing that they think he's pretty remarkable just for being who he is.
As a testament to the long road Lance still has to journey down, he still falls prey to jealousy and insecurity sometimes. When Artan, one of Pidge's previous clanmates, was blown in by a storm and happened to recognize her during his recovery stay, Lance started to worry that this random Fae from Pidge's past might sweep her away.
Even though Pidge was more interested in her droid than she was in anything else going on, Lance still reflexively put on an act of "don't even think about it" towards their unexpected visitor and attempted to posture himself as intimidating. Which admittedly only seemed to confuse everyone involved.
Lance, internally: "Okay, this guy isn't flirting, but he seems to know Pidge, so what if he starts and she likes him better???"
Lance, externally: "I'm totally cool and collected, but don't Mess With Me, new guy."
Pidge and Hunk: "Please ignore him, he's been through a lot and we're working on it."
When the Queen of Hearts and her dance troupe moved into Phantom's opera house, Lance was quick to sign up for an audition. He dragged Pidge and Hunk there to "watch him nail it," but his aerial ribbon dance unfortunately did not make the cut and he is still salty about it. "And she says I'm bad at dancing? She wouldn't know how to dance if a jitterbug bit her!"
