Biography
Dew The Cook |
After a brief talk with Mahal, you duck into the kitchen to get some much needed food. The room inside is large with various steel counters, a row of active stoves on the opposite wall. Standing by a counter, shucking corn, is a pleasant looking tundra, his wild blond mane pulled back from his work. You clear your throat and he startles, dropping his corn and turning to face you. "Oh! H-h-hello! Did you n-n-n-need someth-th-thing?" The tundra smiles pleasantly, quickly picking up his dropped corn, "M-my name is D-D-Dew." |
Origins
Hailing from the Windswept Plateu, Dew has was once able to speak without a stutter, and back then he was quite the talkative and energetic dragon. As a hatchling he was easily excited despite being quite small; he could almost always be found trailing behind his larger "friends" with an eager grin. Though he was not particularly popular with many dragons, Dew was always in a group of mirror hatchlings slightly older than himself. Unfortunately, they did not hail from the Windswept Plateu, rather living in the harsh Southern Icefields and lacking the friendly nature Dew had. They gave Dew complicated and sometimes dangerous dares to introduce him to their pack, and it was one such dare that he gave his stutter. They told Dew to go to the Sea of a Thousand Currents and swim to the bottom of the Leviathan Trench. Dew, being naive and desperate, intended to do just that, but it quickly turned into an absolute disaster. The currents were too strong for young Dew, and they pulled and twisted his around in the water until he eventually hit his head, only surfacing by the good graces of the Tidelord. When he awoke several days later, he had been returned to his home by a local water tribe, now finding himself nestled in the familiar confines of his nest. However, Dew found himself different, his voice now stuttering on almost every word. Dew became more withdrawn and quiet after the event, forgoing his playful nature instead hiding in his home, refusing to talk to anyone. Eventually, the young tundra grew tired of the pity he got at his home and volunteered for a dragon exchange, ending up in the kind home of the Galestorm Flyers--far from the watery climate he hated so much. Now he resides there, trying to remember how to speak without fear and cooking for the dragons he calls family. He has formed a particularly strong bond with Mahal, having met the kind mage not long after his arrival and finding his gentle encouragement soothing, and the lack of pity in his eyes was refreshing. It did not take long for the duo to find love together, and now reside in the lair as mates rather than simply friends. |
Personality
Dew has long since abandoned his extroverted personality and excitable ways. He is now a very self conscious, cautious, and quiet dragon, preferring to speak very little and stay in his kitchen to work rather than participate in the festivals the clan will occasionally throw. Because of his stutter, Dew is hyper aware of how he sounds, how long he takes to speak, and how stupid he sounds when he does speak--the last fact being astounding false as Dew is rather intelligent. Dew is a hard working dragon, getting up in the early morning to cook for his clan, staying up late to prepare for the next meal. As the sole cook Dew is almost constantly working, providing sustenance to his new clan--and family--without asking for anything in return. Despite his belief that he is only here to work for his clan, most of the dragons in the Flyers have made it clear they would give their lives to protect him when he cannot. Though Dew still fears speaking his mind--or speaking in general--he has begun to make real efforts to change this with the assistance of mages and healers. While Mahal does fully support Dew in this endeavor, Dew made it clear at the start that he made this decision for himself and not for his mate. He does enjoy the love Mahal offers--the soft touches, the gentle encouragement, the enjoyable banter, the admiration for what he has accomplished. Perhaps the most important thing Dew needs from Mahal is the one thing he gives freely: listening to him when he speaks, regardless of how long he takes to find and form the words. Dew is simply a soft hearted dragon who appreciates the love he found in this world and the love he made for himself.
