Nino was born to a family of adept mages, but she was kidnapped at a very young age by a clan known as the Black Fang for her magical potential. Her birth parents were killed by the Black Fang, and she was raised by one of the high ranking mages from the clan. Nino's adoptive mother, however, was unkind to her. She treated her not as a daughter, but as a tool.

Jaffar, another Black Fang member, and Nino were supposed to meet after one of Jaffar's missions, but Nino found him bleeding and badly wounded. She nursed him back to health, and when he came to, Jaffar asked why Nino had spared him, remembering the Black Fang's code to kill the weak so that the strong may rise; she replied that, as a fellow Black Fang, she did not want him to die.

This was the first time Jaffar truly felt emotions, and over time he began to care for Nino. Eventually, Nino left the Black Fang to escape the abuse she faced from her mother. When Nino left the Black Fang, Jaffar left as well in order to find her and to protect her. The two found solace in Rigel and Jaffar has stayed close by Nino's side ever since.

Jaffar's actions are understandable, as Nino is often hounded by Black Fang assailants who are looking to take her back to their clan, but with Jaffar and the rest of the residents of Rigel and all of Valentia to protect her, as well as how much her own talents have progressed since the pair left, she feels much safer and happier than ever before. With a natural talent for magic, Nino was selected as lady Rinea's retainer for her aptitude for magic. Her potent spells landed her the position.

Nino is thankful for the other powerful mages in Valentia for helping her improve, as she wants to become strong enough to defend herself so that others don't have to. She also never wants to see Jaffar be hurt again, especially not on her behalf.
